Introducing talent and skill
Talent and skill are oftentimes mistaken and confused in perceptions and conversations. They both relate to the ability of a person to work and perform on a specific task, although the difference between the two is from where the ability originates. Many believe that people are born with a certain talent and that only these selected individuals will be successful. This, however, is not necessarily true, as the concept of talent should be open to different individuals' interpretations. No one is already born a scientist, a dancer or teacher, yet as individuals, we can develop certain skills to fit in different categories. While talent is an undoubted advantage for success in the people holding it, it is not fundamental to be considered flourishing in certain settings. Skills require determination and effort, and being at the disposal of all, can be the winning key to favorable outcomes in life.
What is talent? What is skill?
What is Talent? “Talent is a natural aptitude or skill” (World English Dictionary). Everybody has their own and unique talent hidden inside them, some people may be lucky enough to find out what their talent is during their journey, while others are not. In my opinion everyone has a specific talent however, most of the individuals do not know or have found their talents, or at least have problems describing them. Perhaps it is because talents are reflexive meaning that they are unpredictable, they are like the air we breathe which causes us to take them for granted. People always say, “Oh, you were born to be a basketball player!” but an individual is not born with a basketball in their hands, nobody was ever born ready to complete a specific task although talent ...

In conclusion I believe that raw talent is an advantage that a person holds in their genetics, on the other hand skill is something that is developed with hours and hours of work. In my opinion it is not right to tell someone that they are not talented or that they cannot make it. I think that the only unrealistic goals to an individual are the ones that the individual believes and makes unrealistic. The law of attraction states, “Focusing on positive or negative thoughts, one can bring about positive or negative results. People and their thoughts are both made from pure energy, and like energy attracts like energy” (Law of attraction). In the end talent is not crucial for success, therefore if an individual’s mindset is set to becoming successful then he/she will be successful, however a continuous build up of skills and hard work is needed to achieve success.

The theory that the more one practices the better one becomes. To follow the dream of excellence you must practice your assignment for a total of 10,000 hours or more. “The students who would end up the best in their class began to practice more than everyone else: six hours a week by age nine, eight hours a week by age twelve, sixteen hours by age fourteen, and up and up, until the age of twenty they were practicing well over thirty hours a week” (39) in a sense this excerpt confirms what society has told people for years, that practice makes perfect. Of course some people are born with raw talent, however how does one expect to improve their abilities if they do not rehearse. Anyone can be mediocre without practice, but in order to make it in the big shots one must give their one hundred and ten percent to beat out the competition. It’s all about how one distinguishes themself from another and the only way to do that is to show off that skill that has been practiced repeatedly. Preferably 10,000 hours
Rath states that “talent times investment equals strength (p. 20).” To me this is a very true statement. You might have the talent to do something but if you are not going to invest your time to better yourself then you will not be better yourself. This could also be said for having the drive to do something but without the talent in the task you cannot truly be the best at the task. The tool that helped us determine our strengths via the online assessment, tied into the previous quote by Rath. It asked you questions about both your talents, what you were good at, and it asked how you wo...
The book opens up with a quote by the German proverb, “you will become clever through your mistakes.” I agree with this quote 100% because through personal experience mistakes are the best way I learned on the softball field. It has helped me grow as a player, teammate, and person. I guess a great way to start off this paper is the way he defined talent. Talent in the strictest sense is the possession of repeatable skills that don’t depend on physical size. That being said no matter what size you are the skills you possess is where talent is born for athletes.
The Rage to Master: The Decisive Role of Talent in the Visual Arts was a chapter in the book The Complexity of Greatness: Beyond Talent or Practice by Scott B. Kaufman. This chapter was written by Ellen Winner and Jennifer E. Drake. In the chapter, the authors attempt to separate hard work (commonly referred to as deliberate practice in the literature, but they prefer the term: “rage to master”) from talent. They argue that talent is innate, and therefore exists prior to hard work. A rage to master leads to hard work, and hard work within a domain leads to increasing levels of achievement. They propose four possible groups combining hard work and talent. Using children and drawing as an example, the first group consists of the majority

I’ve always said that I’ve been at a disadvantage since birth. The meaning of disadvantaged, in this situation, doesn’t mean inferior, but more like tragically unlucky .As a child I would find myself getting into trouble more than usual due to my constant curiosity .Along with this, I was a brainwashed Gifted kid, and I was convinced my entire childhood that I would be famous. Due to large bouts of anxiety, constant questions about where I would fit in, and a obsession with being the best at everything I became who I am today.

However, it is not enough to be motivated only to achieve something, in first place people have to have an ability to perform. An ability is learned or natural capacity or talent, that enables an individual to perform in a particular job or task successfully.
