The movie “Social Network” is about the ideas and the development behind the creation of the very popular social networking site “Facebook”. Mark Zuckerberg is the main character in the movie and also the actual creator of Facebook.
There are multiple instances, where various components of interpersonal communication are used throughout this movie. For instance, in the very beginning of the movie Zuckerberg is speaking to his girlfriend Erika, about school, which appears to be a relationship of both circumstance and choice, but uses a bit of sarcasm and conversational narcissism when speaking with her. His girlfriend in return uses the direct termination strategy, justification, by telling Zuckerberg, “we are not dating anymore, I am sorry.” She continues with more statements of why she does not want to be with him any longer.
Zuckerberg, being a computer genius, goes back to his dorm and begins blogging about his now ex-girlfriend and calls her bad names. He then visits to a website called “Kirkland House Face Book” and got an idea to compare two pictures of girls side by side and have people vote to see who they thought was “hotter.” He needed to get pictures so he hacked in to several Face Book databases, and downloaded their profiles. Needless to say, the male students loved the idea and the female students hated it, which leads to a variable of interpersonal communication, sex and gender.

...his movie, I was curious as to how much of the movie is actually true so I looked up different articles on the internet and most articles confirmed a majority of the facts stated within the movie. In the end Eduardo Saverin received a settlement of over 1.1 billion dollars. The Winklevoss twins received over 65 million dollars in a settlement in 2008, against the “real” Mark Zuckerberg. The Winklevoss twins simply had an idea similar to the one Zuckerberg had and Eduardo Saverin, invested a little over sixteen thousand dollars.

“Gender” refers to the cultural construction of whether one is female, male, or something else (Kottak 2013: 209). Typically, based on your gender, you are culturally required to follow a particular gender norm, or gender role. Gender roles are the tasks and activities a culture assigns to the sexes (Kottak 213: 209). The tasks and activities assigned are based upon strongly, seized concepts about male and female characteristics, or gender stereotypes. Gender stereotypes…are oversimplified but strongly upheld ideas about bout the characteristics of males and females (Kottak 2013: 209).
David Fincher’s drama film The Social Network (2010) received quite a lot of attention. Winning 3 Oscars including best screenplay by Aaron Sorkin. Several people went to watch the film thinking its about Facebook, one of the element is about the website but not the main one. There are elements in the story that are as old as the story telling itself, of loyalty, friendship, jealousy, class, power and betrayal. That being said there are several ways Field’s 3 Act Structure and Vogler’s 12 Act Structure of a hero’s journey is presented in a clear way.
The clusters of social definitions used to identify persons by gender are collectively known as “femininity” and “masculinity.” Masculine characteristics are used to identify persons as males, while feminine ones are used as signifiers for femaleness. People use femininity or masculinity to claim and communicate their membership in their assigned, or chosen, sex or gender. Others recognize our sex or gender more on the basis of these characteristics than on the basis of sex characteristics, which are usually largely covered by clothing in daily life.
People often believe a person 's gender is based on their biological sex; biological sex is defined as the anatomy you are born with. Gender is the identity of a person based on their environment and how they have been influenced. Which shows that the biological makeup of a person and what gender they identify with has nothing to do with each other. Today gender and sexuality has become so fluent that gender role stereotypes should be changed too; over decades of powerful movements have been made to change stereotypes but the work is not over.
The word gender refers to a general classification of human beings into male and female with socially and culturally constructed characteristics, behaviors, attributes and roles preconceived and labelled as appropriate for each class. The society and culture today have placed human beings in a box which to a large extent dictates how we act in the world.

It began as a social network for Harvard students and then quickly expanded to universities across America. Facebook as we know it today started in the year 2004 and now does not only include college students but ages ranging from teens to middle-aged individuals. The social network site has quickly developed into one of the most trafficked networking websites which runs thousands of databases. By building a network that has spread across various countries, Facebook has successfully created a form of technology that allows people to connect with friends across the seas with different cultures.
February 4th, 2004 was the day social media would change forever; it was the day Facebook was launched. Mark Zuckerberg and his college roommates from Harvard are the founders of the popular social media site. Zuckerberg is now in the top 100 people on the Forbes list because of his success with Facebook. He is currently listed as number 20 of the richest people in America. Gender identity has been a delicate issue when it comes to determining if a person's gender is set at birth or develops and changes as a person ages. A person’s gender is not as simple as being classified as either male or female. There’s a considerable amount of external factors that can influence someone’s identity. Although society has a major role in gender identity, sex assignment at birth is not final; furthermore, a person's gender can be influenced by psychological, physiological differences and undergoing changes to the human body. A common misconception many people believe is that gender and gender are the same or go hand in hand with one another.
Gender is such a ubiquitous notion that humans assume gender is biological. However, gender is a notion that is made up in order to organize human life. It is created and recreated giving power to the dominant gender, creating an inferior gender and producing gender roles. There are many questionable perspectives such as how two genders are learned, how humans learn their own gender and others genders, how they learn to appropriately perform their gender and how gender roles are produced. In order to understand these perspectives, we must view gender as a social institution. Society bases gender on sex and applies a sex category to people in daily life by recognizing gender markers. Sex is the foundation to which gender is created. We must understand the difference between anatomical sex and gender in order to grasp the development of gender. First, I will be assessing existing perspectives on the social construction of gender. Next, I will analyze three case studies and explain how gender construction is applied in order to provide a clearer understanding of gender construction. Lastly, I will develop my own case study by analyzing the movie Mrs. Doubtfire and apply gender construction.
