INTRODUCTION

Background and Purpose
Almost all students want an internship before they graduate from college. Internships are important to college students because it gives them experience in the field they want to go into. This is especially true in the Aviation field because most employers want a person who has a little bit of training or experience. Aeronautics is a very broad major with many options for internships. Depending on the course study built into the student’s Aeronautics degree, the student will either have limited or expanded options as far as internships. One of the course studies the student can take is in space studies. With this course of study, an internship the student could consider would be with NASA or another space related company. Right now NASA and Space-X are the two major entities that are developing the future of the space exploration industry. To aid in preparing and applying for internships, this analyzes compares NASA’s Langley Aerospace Research Summer Scholars (LARSS) and Space-X’s International Trade in Arms Regulations (ITAR) Summer Internship to determine which will have a bigger influence on helping students establish a career in the space exploration industry after the student graduates.

Method of Inquiry
This report contains information from the both the LARSS internship website and the Space- X website. This report also includes an interview with Mrs. Debbie Murray, the Coordinator of the LARSS program Internship. Information will also be given by a past LARSS intern, Ms. Jamie VanderHeiden. The author’s knowledge about the LARSS Internship Bridge Program adds to this comparative study.
