Francis Njoh Second Draft Composition 2 Information age In the world we live in everything is constantly changing within the past 20 years we have evolved technologically from mini garbage can size cell phones to GPS systems that can give directions to anywhere in the world in the blink of an eye, with technology changing all the time. The world is always evolving and ways in which we operate at home, work and school are changing as well. Computers in the classroom are becoming more and more familiar and it is a must in are classes and it is essential for administrators to support and encourage computer technology in our education systems.

First, we first must study the definition of technology in order to figure out its proper role in education. According to Noah Webster, a founding father of American scholarship and education, in 1828 defined technology as, “a description of arts, or a treatise on the arts.” (Miller, 2008) Today, Noah Webster’s modern predecessor, Merriam-Webster, defines technology first as the practical application of knowledge, especially in a particular area. (Miller, 2008) Consequently, applying the modern definition to technology in remark to its place in the classroom, technology in education is not an alternative; it is crucial in today’s world. Which means the word “technology” is defined as whatever the most advanced technologies are available for teaching and learning in a particular era.

Technology in the classroom today naturally includes of the use of computers and the Internet. So using the right tools in the classroom will prepare students for tomorrow’s challenges and tomorrows new world. The goals of technology in the classroom must be clearly and specifically defined for classroom technology to be of the best value to learners, teachers, and most importantly society The advantages discussed concerning computer technology in the classroom outweigh the disadvantages. Computer technology is the best way to bridge the gap between education and the technological world in which is now called the information age. Computer assisted technologies in schools provide students best access to information, and a craving to learn, let’s not forget a jump-start at a very important job skill and an elevate quality of class work.
