There is a virus in the world of food companies. It has put hazardous chemicals in foods that we eat on a daily basis. It is also so dangerous that it even infects our government by influencing it. This virus is called Monsanto. It is a multinational company that sells products they make by using chemical and agricultural biotechnology. This massive Corporation is partially at fault for loss of local farms, the inventing of chemical filled industrialized foods, and influencing government ideas. Money is power for some and this is definitely no exception for Monsanto. Monsanto is perceived by some environmentalists to be the main distributer of GMO’s, which are genetically modified organisms. For those who believe in all those conspiracy theories, one would never second guess the thought of Monsanto and their government ties. With money to their advantage, they can help the government out. As an end product, our government then returns them with a favor. What Monsanto decides to do with that favor can be dangerous for us. The government stays loyal to Monsanto because it is a money machine. These foods are bad and our government knows it. If this weren’t true than why would our own President Obama order an organic farm for the white house garden? For an instance on Globalresearch.org it was said by Josh Sager that when Obama first took office in 2009 he was very supportive of the labeling of GMO’s, but the ironic concern here is that the 2012 Farm Bill was never passed. The 2012 Farm bill is a bill that forces companies to start the labeling of all GMO’s. Since the bill hasn’t been passed yet all GMO’s are still not labeled here in 2014. Scary to believe that these occasions where the government seems to be a little shady are... ... middle of paper ... ...014. Interview with Dr. Robert Dugo Fern, David, and Jonathan Nathan. Monsanto is the world 's leader on bio-technology and was found in St. Louis Missouri. Monsanto was not known as an agriculture company at first as it is now rather a chemical company of the 20th century. They are also responsible for growing 90 percent of the world 's GMO’s. On Monsanto’s website it states their goal is to help farmers around the world to produce healthier foods, conserving more, and better animal feeds while reducing impact on our environment. Monsanto 's GMO has been effecting our environment for years but have not yet brought to justice according to this video. The question is why? According to this documentary Monsanto created many hazardous chemicals for example PCBs, Agent Orange and recombinant
The Influenza virus is a unique respiratory viral disease that can have serious economic and social disruption to society. The virus is airborne transmitted through droplets release by coughing or sneezing from an infected person or by touching infected surfaces. Symptoms range from mild to severe and may even result in death. People with the virus usually experience fever, headache, shivering, muscle pain and cough, which can lead to more severe respiratory illness such as pneumonia. People most susceptible to the flu virus are elderly individuals and young children as well as anyone whose health or immune system has been compromise. The most effective way to counteract the influenza virus is to get the flu vaccine which is available by shots or nasal spray before the flu season as well as practicing safe hygiene. (CDC, 2013)
...ary of 2013 demonstrated that the government's claims that over fifty terrorist threats had been averted (Bruce, 2013) were misleading and that it was standard investigative procedures, such as informants, tip offs and targeted operations that yielded positive results in nearly all cases. The NSA input was minimal and that only 1.8% of cases where initiated by its mass data collection programs. (Bergen et al., 2014)These inefficiencies are what Matthew Duffin; assistant professor at Utah Valley University believes are unethical. (Archner, 2014)
Everyday citizens often live unaware of their government’s inner workings. The knowing of political espionage is often too heavy of a subject to be inducted in conversation. True, prima facie, modest twists and turns of information may not be considered substantial, but this inconsideration leaves much to be uncontrolled. It is easy for political leaders to become power crazed, to not realize the massive implications that come of their actions. Only after all is said and done do the people actually realize their government is an opaque mask of deception. The Watergate Scandal substantially impacted Americans’ trust in their government.
American society has grown so accustomed to receiving their food right away and in large quantities. Only in the past few decades has factory farming come into existence that has made consuming food a non guilt-free action. What originally was a hamburger with slaughtered cow meat is now slaughtered cow meat that’s filled with harmful chemicals. Not only that, the corn that that cow was fed with is also filled with chemicals to make them grow at a faster rate to get that hamburger on a dinner plate as quickly as possible. Bryan Walsh, a staff writer for Time Magazine specializing in environmental issues discusses in his article “America’s Food Crisis” how our food is not only bad for us but dangerous as well. The word dangerous could apply to many different things though. Our food is dangerous to the consumer, the workers and farmers, the animals and the environment. Walsh gives examples of each of these in his article that leads back to the main point of how dangerous the food we are consuming every day really is. He goes into detail on each of them but focuses his information on the consumer.
Food is an essential part of everyday life without it one could not survive. Every day we make choices on what we put in to our bodies. There are countless varieties of food to choose from to meet the diverse tastes of the increasing population. Almost all food requires a label explaining the ingredients and the nutritional value allowing consumers to make informed decisions on what they are consuming. However, many may not be considering where that food is coming from or how it has been produced. Unfortunately, there is more to food than meets the eye. Since 1992, “ the U.S. Food and Drug Administration ruled, based on woefully limited data, that genetically modified foods were ‘substantially equivalent’ to their non-GM counterparts” (Why to Support Labeling). GM food advocates have promised to create more nutritious food that will be able to grow in harsh climate conditions and eventually put an end to world hunger in anticipation of the growing population. There is very little evidence to support these claims and study after study has proven just the opposite. GM crops are not only unsafe to consume, but their growing practices are harmful to the environment, and multinational corporations are putting farmers out of business.
There is many examples of these companies controlling the government, but the most notable is Justice Clarence Thomas. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was a Monsanto lawyer before he became a supreme court justice (Kenner). Justice Thomas used his power to write and sign a bill that prohibited farmers from saving their own seeds (Kenner). Another clear example of the government being controlled by the food industry is Michael Taylor (Kenner). Michael Taylor was a lawyer for Monsanto, specifically concerning GMO labeling. He oversaw the FDA’s decision not to label GMOs while he was the Deputy Commissioner of Policy for the FDA (Kenner). There are many other examples of the government being controlled by big companies, including a member of President Clinton’s advisory board, a past NC Senator, the FDA branch chief and the EPA Deputy Administrator
GMO stands for genetically modified organism. It is a technique that allows DNA from one species to be injected into another species in a laboratory, creating combinations of plant, animal, bacteria, and viral genes that are unfamiliar to nature. [Whole Foods] Genetically modified organisms were first created in 1983 when a tobacco plant was altered to resist anti-biotics and later in 1990 when genetically engineered cotton was successfully tested. This was a breakthrough for the biotechnology era of agriculture since it allowed the manipulation and creation of food. The six multinational giants that currently dominate the agricultural market include: Monsanto, Dow, BASF, Bayer, Syngenta, and DuPont. [Chemical Cartel] Together these companies have gained government approval, “particularly insect repellent traits and herbicide tolerance for crops, to help farmers improve their crop yields while keeping costs low.” [Moore, 2011] It would appear that these companies might just have the answer to farming problems and potentially world hunger. They seem to have revolutionized the farming industry and the food industry, as we know it.
“For the first time in the history of the world, every human being is now subjected to contact with dangerous chemicals, from the moment of conception until death.” Why do people consciously consume unhealthy, processed foods which big corporations in America distribute? These foods can lead to potentially harmful affects on the human body. So why are these risky products sold and consumed? The main reasons are because processed foods taste great and companies make large profits from these unwholesome products. General Mills is the 6th largest food company in the world, and uses genetically modified ingredients, preservatives, and artificial flavors in their products. The product that will be analyzed will be the tasty, mouthwatering breakfast favorite, Reese’s Puffs.
Marburg virus belongs to the genus Marburgvirus in the family Filoviridae, and causes a grave hemorrhagic fever, known as Marburg hemorrhagic fever (MHF), in twain humans and nonhuman primates. Basic Safety measures for medical personnel and others who are taking care of presumed individuals who may be contaminated with Marburg disease. Marburg Virus, Akin to the more widely known Ebola hemorrhagic fever, MHF is portrayed by systemic viral replication, lowering the body’s normal immune response to invasion by foreign substances and abnormal inflammatory responses. Ebola and Marburg Virus are very similar in many ways Marburg virus was introduced first in the 1960’s. These pathological features of the disease subsidize to a numerous of systemic dysfunctions including
For example, this year Hillary Clinton was put under a microscope for the use of a private email address. When government officials learned that she had this extra email they scrutinized her continuously about it. Next, she was investigated to see if she had classified information on this email, not the private email that the government provides. This is another form of proof of the never ending government surveillance these days. Along with emails the government uses the combing through social media pages or profiles. Although most profiles of social media can be seen at all times on the internet. The government can make the private posts accounts available to themselves at all
Many consumers and farmers have discovered that living in an industrialized culture where the focus has become faster, bigger, and cheaper is not the best way to produce our food. Obsessed with productivity, the agriculture industry is reaping the negative consequences of creating an unsustainable environment for food production. Time and time again, the media captures stories regarding deadly bacterial contamination and dangerous pesticide contamination causing illness and death in our communities. The environment is also damaged and contaminated. This devastating trend, due to irresponsible farming practices as a result of the industrialization of the food industry, has become all too common.
“Genetically modified foods are a "Pandora's box" of known and unknown risks to humans and the environment. They have been forced onto the American public by multinational biotech and agribusiness corporations without adequate oversight and regulation by the United States government (Driscoll, SallyMorley, David C).”Genetically Modified Food is food which has been chemically altered by scientists during the production process to give the food more nutrients, better appearance, and a longer shelf-life (Rich, Alex K.Warhol, Tom). The importance of this issue is that these GMO’s can actually have a negative effect in our society in general. It could mutate in a negative way and cause cancer or other diseases. Genetically modified food should be strictly controlled due to its various detrimental effects on the environment, human health, and potentially insect/animal effects.
First off, The government of the United States of America is ultimately responsible for keeping our foods safe. Many of the Presidents of the major food companies also obtain government jobs. When a problem occurs with food and a food has to be recalled a change has to be made. Someone comes up with a law to make sure that the problem does not occur again. The government evaluates the law and either passes or denies it. The type of foods that we buy from the grocery store were pre evaluated by the government. I think the reason why most foods are unsafe and are still being obtained by local residents is because the major food companies work and make deals with government so
In the world we live in today, there is a high demand for everything to be fast paced. If you cannot catch up with this high tide then you simply get swept away. With this in mind, a daily essential like food is not ignored. The food that we eat today is full of pesticides and chemicals to meet the demands of the growing population. The effects these chemicals are having is damaging to the enviroment and the human race. The strange thing is that today we are aware of these practices but are allowing them to continue.
