Water is the most priceless resource on our planet. Billions of gallons flow through our rivers and lakes. Millions of gallons are consumed by humans each day. Our world’s surface is seventy percent water. With so much water around us, how can 1.1 billion people still lack access to clean water (Cooper, Water Shortages)? People are already using fifty four percent of all the freshwater available on this planet (Cooper, Water Shortages). We cannot afford to neglect something so essential to our very survival. We must defend our most important natural resource—water.
According to CQ Researcher’s Cooper “More than a billion people around the world lack access to safe drinking water and their numbers are growing”(Water Shortage). Is it fair that so many people must go without water while thousands of gallons are wasted here in the United States? Cooper in addition commented that “unlike the vast majority of natural resources water often is seen as a free commodity like the air we breathe” (Water Shortage). Without seeing water as something worth conserving, we literally pour away our most valuable resource. We can not afford this; water shortages already ravage the majority of the world: “If per-capita water consumption continues to rise at current rates, humans will take more than 90 percent of all available fresh water by 2025, leaving only 10 percent of the earth’s fresh water for all animals and plants on the planet” (Cooper, Water Shortage). Even the water that is available to humans is often not clean enough to safely drink: “Outbreaks of cholera and other waterborne diseases kill 10 million people each year” (Cooper, Water Quality). In the analysis of the water countless amounts of harmful bacteria were found among them; Salmonella Typhi which causes Typhoid fever in men, B subtilis which can contaminate wounds and, Clostridium perfringens the main bacteria behind gangrene and food poisoning (KUMAR 8).These harmful bacteria have claimed numerous lives and yet the river is still being used for drinking and bathing. . The Ganges is still only one of thousands of other extremely polluted rivers, some of which are here in the United States.
Water is the most important resource on our planet. The causes of not protecting will be very dire because, water like most things on this planet isn’t endless. We must conserve the drops of precious water we have and protect it, because at the end of the day we can’t afford not to protect it.
Humans need water. In a world that is overpopulated, we use a lot of water and other natural resources. Currently, in our world, clean water is getting scarce. Recently, for example, Flint, Michigan, had a water crisis. In early 2016, the water was discovered to be tainted with lead and other toxins. Long before that, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and Governor Rick Snyder along with his council, knew about the lead, but to save money for the city of Flint in early 2014 Snyder had changed the city’s water source to the Flint River which had corroded pipes, causing people of all ages to be sick from the high amounts of lead
We often hear the saying that water is the source of life so how can mankind waste this precious source that God has given us. A fine example was mentioned in the film about India’s new green agricultural system where 30 times more water is been use than the actual amount required. It is really hard to see how these farmers are spitefully wasting water when it is really needed in the neighboring communities. This goes to show that people only do things to benefit themselves not considering the needs of other people. Not only is water being wasted in developing countries but there is also water wastage in developed countries we often take our water sources for granted here in the US such as not turning off the pipes when brushing our teeth or washing our hands and the list goes on. Water conservation is the key to saving our planet because soon it will become extinct to us human beings.
Drinking water is essential and indispensable to life itself possible on the face of the earth, it is much more than a well, a resource, a commodity, drinking water is specifically a human right of first order and an element essential national sovereignty itself and, most likely, whoever controls the water control the economy and life in the not so distant future.

Unfortunately, clean water is rare, almost 1 billion people in developing countries do not have access to water everyday. “Yet, we take it for granted, we waste it, and we even pay too much to drink it from little plastic bottles” (The Water Project). Use of earth’s natural resources should be seen as prosperity, although it is taken for granted, every aspect of daily life revolves around the environment, forcing water conservation to be necessary for future on this planet.
Change an Old Showerhead: Something as simple as swapping an inefficient, outdated showerhead with a new, droplet saving showerhead can make a big difference in conserving water. A droplet saving showerhead can use up to 2900 gallons less water per year. Changing a showerhead is relatively simple. Begin by plugging the drain in order to prevent small parts from slipping down the drain. Next, use a wrench to twist off the threaded ring that attaches the showerhead to the spout. Next, wrap a few layers of thread seal or plumber’s tape around the threads on the spout. Then, screw on the showerhead and tighten it with a wrench. It is now ready to use and conserve water.

Many environmental issues plague world leaders in developed and developing countries in the 21st century. Of these issues, many people dismiss the issue of decreasing fresh water supply in favour of other seemingly more pressing issues. However, numerous scientists and organizations around the world emphasize the urgency of this issue, as fresh water is essential for the survival of humans. Although the Earth is covered largely by oceans, in comparison to fresh water, salt water is not very useful in the daily lives of many people. Given that “70 % of the worlds surface” (Recyclebank, 2014) is covered in water, it sure seems as if there is an endless amount of it . However only “ 1% of the world’s water is drinkable”(EPA, 2013). Water is a living necessity and we do not have an infinite amount of it. That is why I want to encourage you to save water. Not only does it benefit us, but the earth and the environment as well. By conserving water you can help delay water shortage, save money and it only takes small simple changes to make a difference.
