In The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins expresses two themes. The first one is that we can’t let the government use their power to treat, and use people like they want, they are oppressing them. “At one o’clock, we head of the square. Attendance is mandatory unless you are on deaths door. This evening, officials will come around and check to see if this is the case. If not you will be imprisoned.” (Collins, 16) we can see that the Capitol forces the people to participate in the reaping by threatening them. “When I was younger, I scared my mother to death, the things I would blurt out about District 12, about the people who rule our country, Panem, from the far-off city called the Capitol. Eventually I understood this would only lead us to more trouble. So I learned to hold my tongue and to turn my features into an indifferent mask so that no one could ever read my thoughts.“ (Collins, 06) Katniss have to saved her feelings and don’t show them on the District 12 because inside she knows that she was devil, but she has to show to the people how strong she can be in the games, also Katniss censors herself because of the fears her mother has of the government. People are scared of the government, the Capitol inspires fear and that is one of the reasons why they create the games, to make people be afraid and not attack them. Government have total control with people, they are not free because they have to make all the things that they want. Another theme is that true love is the strongest feeling in the world. “In the woods waits the only person with whom I can be myself, Gale.’’ Katniss was completely in love with Gale, they used to do many things together, like spend all the day hunting in the woods and talk about their future. This situation has always occurred because their parents oppress their daughters to do this only because they have all the control over them, they are lacked of opportunities and they don’t have food. The book The Hunger Games is full of critical scenes. A critical scene is a type of scene that is necessary for the book to have a story. One very important critical scene is when Prim was chosen at the reaping. When she was chosen Katniss decided to take her place as a tribute. Why did Katniss take her place? What could have happened if she didn't take her place?

In the adaptation of the film The Hunger Games and the book of The Hunger Games they portray very different characteristics. The filmmakers deviated the Hunger Games scenes in a more dramatic way than before. Representing District 13, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark were forced to go and compete in the 74th Hunger Games and fight for their lives. But as these scenes progressed they both get very captivating and very dramatic in both the book and the film. This film has made huge fluctuations to the fighting scene than they did in the book. In The Hunger Games book, during the fighting scene, the capital did not give as much help nor did they have all of the capabilities they did in the fighting scene
In 2012 the film The Hunger Games hit theatres and became a success. The success of the film was originally fueled by the fan base of the Suzanne Collins authored trilogy of the same name, but it soon gained popularity amongst those who had not read the trilogy as well. You could relate the movie to sociology in one of two ways. The first option would be to write about how the film became a cultural phenomenon or other theories relating to its success. This paper will be written using the other way, which is to write about the movie itself through a sociological point of view by writing about how culture, social control, and stratification are featured in the movie and how people with different sociological perspectives may view the film.
In the book The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins displays a variety of topics that most readers neglect to consider. One of key aspects she displays is the restriction against individuality. This is a similar theme that dominated the 1920s in America during the Red Scare. During this era many Americans were fearful of expressing views that were not in sync with the government’s perspective; likewise the capitol creates methods that inhibit the citizens ability to voice any opposing views. Most of the time, when controversial opinions were spoken, the punishments put in place were not worthy of the crime, such as the Sacco Vanzetti case in the 1921 and the imprisoning of the Avox girl. In order to keep this power as many people were imprisoned as possible during the Palmer efforts, similarly the reaping is held every year to show the citizens of Panem that they have no power whatsoever. Consequently, when a government provides strict standards, it hinders a person’s ability to be an individual.
What makes the “The Lottery” and the popular movie “The Hunger Games” similar? What makes them different? The way these two stories provide insignificant or significant information, demonstrates a short story and/or novel. With this said how do the readers/watchers really pay attention? “The Hunger Games” and “The Lottery” have similar ideas but differ with plot, characters development, the final outcome, and which draws more attention to the reader.
As human beings, we thrive to find the meaning of our existence and also the truth. In the books and movies, The Hunger Games trilogy, the very heroic character Katniss Everdeen is on a quest to find truth. As she peels back the layers of lies that swaddle her world, she finds truth within herself and everything around her. To reflect on the novels and films, we must look at the principles of axiology and also examine the plot, characters and how they react to each situation; for reflecting on “the girl on fire” we must study the grounds of epistemology with her own identity. The whole story starts off with the day of the reaping when Prim, Katniss’ sister is selected to enter the Hunger Games, a game created by the government at the time to keep the society scared. One boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 from each district are selected by an annual lottery to participate in the Hunger Games, an event in which the participants must fight to the death in an outdoor arena controlled by the Capitol, until only one individual remains.

In a not-too-distant, some 74 years, into the future the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 13 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games; these children are referred to as tributes (Collins, 2008). The Games are meant to be viewed as entertainment, but every citizen knows their purpose, as brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts. The televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eradicate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. The main character throughout the series is a 16-year-old girl from District 12 named Katniss Everdeen.
Entertainment can come and be enjoyed in many different forms. Television shows and movies are some of the different forms of entertainment can be in. The lives of famous actors from shows or movies are constantly scrutinized on and off screen. Within the world of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins a version of reality entertainment is the televised murder of innocent children. Those who are chosen to be within the Hunger Games become a scrutinized celebrity. Katniss and other tributes that are forced to fight and kill show how human identity can become lost as they become objectified for the people of Panem. The Hunger Games helps represent the harm that reality television can have by using the glorification of death with the objectification
In both books they share some traits, even though they may not look anything alike they are. both of these novels are dystopian novels and many characters share similarity’s.
The movie “The Hunger Games” has many similarities and relations to World Mythology. While it may not seem like this movie is as myth related as others, such as Troy and Thor, many of the themes and situations in the movie were inspired by the stories of the great myths and epics. The overall theme of the movie is courage, strength, and destiny.
In a nation where children and teenagers fight each other to the death for live entertainment annually, what social norms can actually be considered ethical? This is the question that Katniss Everdeen faces throughout The Hunger Games series. She must choose between doing what is right, and what is accepted, because in her world, the wrong thing is breaking the rules, no matter how wrong they may be. The rules that she deals with are much different than the ethical principles that people in the real world deal with, but for Katniss and the rest of the districts in Panem, these rules are what they have known their entire lives. The novel Anthem by Ayn Rand and the movie The Hunger Games directed by Francis Lawrence and Gary Ross are popular among teens because they can relate to them by the high expectations put upon them. In a dystopian novel or movie, there is a dystopian protagonist. A dystopian protagonist is someone who often feels trapped, struggles to escape, questions existing systems, believes or feels as if something is wrong in the place they live in, and then helps the audience realize the effects of dystopian worlds. These are both good examples because it takes us on a walk through the protagonist's life and only then do we see what dystopian really is.
