Has Technology Destroyed Social Bonds?
Remember when we used to communicate via “snail mail” or phone calls. It could take weeks to get a reply from an important associate possibly working overseas, or reach a family member in a time of crisis. Luckily for us technology has made such things as easy of a simple swype (android typing tool). Because of today’s technology keeping in touch with literally anybody is user friendly. Think of all the deployed soldiers’ video chatting face-to-face with their missed loved ones, people texting their parents while away at college. Technology has answered our yearning to connect and stay connected with othersSocial bonds indeed have been forever changed. Like many things, social bonds and the way we make them continues to evolve not because of technology, but thanks to technology.
“The military of the United States is deployed in more than 150 countries around the world, with 173,929 of its 1,388,028 active-duty personnel serving outside the United States and its territories.” Our soldiers put their life on the line every day to protect everything we take for granted with no days off. These selfless individuals spend countless days away from home, missing Christmas, birthdays, and every other holiday that is cheerfully celebrated. It is just as important for us to stay connected as it is for all our soldiers. Technology has made the dread of long deployments and missing out on loved one’s life irrelevant.
Veterans have many available ways to communicate face-to-face on FaceTime or Skype. The total number of Skype users as of Jan. 2013 is 31 million. It is estimated that 1% of the population is in the armed forces, so 1% of 31 million is 310,000. The total number of active duty military person...

... and social media is being used to create and maintain bonds between warriors and comrades, to provide interesting new approaches to learning diverse subjects in the classroom and fill the needs of disabled students. One thing stands out, when previous technology was found suitably unfit for the swift need for social bonds, technology rose to the challenge and presented us with social media networks. Social media has not destroyed bonds, it has only undoubtedly made them ___strong word¬¬¬¬___ stronger.
