Evolving communications technology has changed the way business personnel communicate within an organization. The use of technology allows companies to be more dynamic and adaptive to changes by allowing instantaneous communications via interconnected computer networks. This dependency on information and communications technology has evolved these emerging technologies as crucial tools for providing operational support to business communications tasks (Wilkinson, 2006). Remaining competitive is a primary goal of organizations and effective communications help companies achieve this goal. Competency in communications is considered the root of success for many activities including planning, organizing, team work, and leadership (Waldeck, Durante, Helmuth, & Marcia, 2012).

Interpersonal Communication is the physical transactional process of verbal and nonverbal communication that is ever changing between at least two individuals. In the world of interpersonal communication, each individual remains in a level of competence (how efficiently you are capable to communicate) (Lilic, Popovic and Popovic 681). For example, awkward individuals would be graded lower versus someone who is confident and is able to hold a conversation naturally. The competence of the feedback and feed forward process is affected by “noise” which affects or prevents the message to be sent to the receiver. This includes physical noise, physiological noise, psychological noise and sematic noise. Together with “noise”, the process of communication is also affected by the environment or dimension the communication is taken place. This includes, physical, temporal, social-physiological and cultural dimensions (Devito 2). Technology is not a new idea but is always changing. The modern world revolves around technology, and it has touched almost every aspect of human life. Technology is used in almost every field of work, in homes all over the world, and for social communication (Gebski paragraph 1). Many people would argue that technology has advanced our world tremendously; and to a point, that is true. In other words, technology has reduced social interaction of people on a daily basis. Most ancient cultures’ social lives were based around community events with everyone gathering together. A variety of topics such as business, politics, and conflicts or disagreements would be discussed in person, out in the open. Technology has changed this aspect of culture
Since the beginning of time the advancement of technology has been changing the requirements in order to be able to do certain jobs. The first example of which, is the big, strong caveman that hunted for food with a club, who was replaced by the small, sneaky one that hunted with a bow. This example is analogous to the assistant that hand writes documents for his boss, being replaced by one that can type documents much faster and more easily. Many people have thought about or have even debated if the evolution of technology in the workplace has negatively effected the working class. These thoughts and debates have spurred dozens of other controversial topics, but one specifically is whether the number of digital jobs created outweighs the number of jobs lost. Though the development of technology has exponentially increased productivity and efficiency, many people believe that it has taken away more jobs from the working class than we can afford to lose, because of data sharing, data processing, and robotic replacement of workers. However, for those same reasons I believe that there will be an equal or greater number of computer jobs to replace them.
The average worker spends two-thousand and eighty hours a year at their place of employment. Communication within the workplace is often overlooked or not given as much importance as most people should allow, given the amount of time that is spent there. Beyond the more basic verbal speech, one must be aware of the nonverbal symbols and noise that can have an effect on communication. There are also cultural, environmental and internal factors that can effect communication and how successful it can be. The various perceptions that an individual has developed over their life can also effect communication. One’s ability to communicate effectively will determine the success and enjoyment that is to come from their job.
The factory of the future might only need a human and a dog to keep it running: a dog to make sure that no-one tampers with the machines, and a human to feed the dog (Silva). This world is changing, and machines are practically taking over the workforce. When a person walks into a business, a home, or even at school there will be some piece of technology. Given, technology is only to make the world a better place. The only problem is, when it is used as a worker instead of a tool, that job is no longer human dependent. Machines are turning into the backbone of America, unfortunately. Even the most basic of jobs should be done by humans, with technology only being used as a tool, not the worker.
Technology has improved our way of living. Due to many advances of technology most Americans will not be able to live without it. The most impactful revolution that has occurred to the social life of a regular American is the Digital Revolution. The revolution brought new ways to communicate. With Social Media Americans can now connect to friends and family members across the world with ease. Many mediums of communication have been born out of the Digital Revolution.
The world is getting smaller, yet remains full of possibilities due in part to technology. Interestingly, the very first emails could only be sent to someone using two computers, literally side by side. Technology dates back to the first manipulations of materials to assist in human survival. There are many definitions for technology, John D. Carl describes technology stating,” it deals with the creation, use, and application of knowledge and its’ interrelation with life, society, and the environment” (Carl, J.D., 2011, p.301). For the purpose of this paper, any instrument, invention, or method influencing and allowing people to control or adapt to their environment, is technology. With the increased availability of technological tools (smart phones, text messaging, image scanning, email, and social media), communication is rapidly changing. Society has moved beyond the Industrial Age and into the Information Age, where the sharing of knowledge and ideas is the new driver of power and world economy. Technology possesses many merits, and as with any tool, it carries drawbacks. Misuse and overuse creates unsavory dependence. This dependence can have adverse affects on people, business, and education. Technology receives vast criticism for reducing face-to-face interactions. Although the information technology of today is widely held as impersonal, it promotes communication; technology reduces costs and leverages productivity by facilitating access to information and knowledge, and augmenting interaction amongst those who utilize technology.
“We barely have time to pause and reflect these days on how far communicating through technology has progressed. Without even taking a deep breath, we’ve transitioned from email to chat to blogs to social networks and more recently to twitter” (Alan 2007). Communicating with technology has changed in many different ways. We usually “get in touch” with people through technology rather than speaking with them face to face. The most popular way people discuss things, with another individual, is through our phones. Phones have been around way before I was born in 1996, but throughout the years, they have developed a phone called a “smart phone”. The smart phone has all kinds of new things that we can use to socialize with our peers. On these new phones, we can connect with our friends or family on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Technology has also developed Skype, a place you can talk with people on the computer with instant voice and video for hours. The new communication changes have changed drastically from the new advances made in technology through our smart phones, social networking sites, and Skype.
Communication is important in life. Companies need to communicate with other companies and customers. The managers also need to communicate with the staff. The technology provides us with many means of communication, the most important of which is e-mail.
The internet has revolutionized all forms of communication since the beginning of its existence. The world has now become smaller' or more like a global village', so to speak. The internet was first used by the U.S military for communications purposes. The internet, from the communication point of view, has brought on new developments and techniques to keep in touch not only for individuals, but for businesses as well. An example of how the internet has impacted communication would be an example of doctors now communicating through live video feeds via the internet with patients or other doctors to diagnose patients or to even guide and advise surgeons through complicated procedures.

The concepts of successful communication are active listening, organizational culture, conflict resolution, and key principles of human communication, leadership strategies, formal and informal communication. There is some corporate groups formal and informal communication structure within the organization. Efficient communication is the key to success within an organization that relates to organizational communication. In an organization, communication in all area is crucial for employees, and leaders, who know and understand the significant and how to implement these concepts in the workplace.
