Kit airplanes are very unsafe to fly in, and there is information to prove that. Even though kit airplanes are easy to obtain, there are specific rules and regulations that a person must follow. Even though there certain guidelines to follow, there are still many accidents that end tragically because of the kit planes. Flying a kit airplane should require a special license, and the people building it should be required to go through a simple training class to learn how to fix minor malfunctions that may occur, and to also learn how to fly a plane correctly. If people were required to go through a class teaching these simple things, then the percentage of wrecks that happen in home built aircrafts will greatly reduce because pilots and builders will have more knowledge on the subject. Purchasing a kit plane and building it is something that is easier than a person would expect. After one orders a kit plane, it comes “Where initial shaping of the metal is done by the manufacturer but all assembly is done by the owner” (manufacturing process). This is so the owner is able to successfully complete the plane without having to worry about the shaping and molding of metal sheets to form the airplane body. Building an airplane has become pretty simple, and over time, Stewart McDougall documented his steps in building a kit plane and according to him, “The equipment used in the assembly was a mixture of hand tools and some machines such as belt sanders” (manufacturing process). This just proves how kit airplanes are something that is always being made easier to build and create. Building a plane requires lots of man hours and work “work for assembly was at about 540 man-hours” (manufacturing process). This became very obvious during this research, not all kit airplanes have failures and there is any journals of successful home built airplanes that have been published. Flying a home built airplane is a risk that some people are willing to take. Even though there are many safety precautions put out to help reduce the amount of crashes, it is not always the case. As more and more people go into home built aviation instead of general aviation, the amount of plane crashes continues to rise. The only way to stop the rise of failures would be for the FAA or some other flight education program to put out a course for perspective home built plane operators. This will greatly reduce the amounts of wrecks and fatalities and might even one day make flying home built as safe as flying a general aviation aircraft.
Flying alongside the clouds at high altitudes; to hear nothing except the thoughts in my head and to go to far away destinations on a weekend is just some of the reasons I enjoy flying. I start out early in the morning heading out to the local airport. At that time in the morning, I can feel the chill in the air. It is so quiet at the beginning of dawn. I know when I am close to the airport; I can smell the aviation fuel burning from the aircraft on the runway. Once I arrive, I head straight to the aircraft hangar where I left my aircraft the previous day. Next, I would walk around the aircraft to do a visual inspection of any damage to the aircraft that may have been done on a previous flight. If there is some minor damage, I log it in my flight log. Once I am done with the preliminary outside inspections, I move inside the flight cabin where I set the instruments for the day’s flight. Once the instruments are set, I crack my window slightly and yell, “CLEAR.” I turn the key to the right; the propeller starts to turn with a clank, clank sound; suddenly the engine comes to life. WOW, what a feeling that is to hear the engine comes to life. I place my headset on my head and say, “Clermont, WNS77 with radio check, Clermont.” The tower replies with, “Clermont, WNS77 radio check, load and clear, Clermont.” The thrill of flying has always had a place in my heart and being a part of the Experimental Aviation Association, also known as EAA, has help me feel closer to my desires of flying with the heavenly bodies. The history of flying dates back as early as the fifteenth century. A Renaissance man named Leonardo da Vinci introduced a flying machine known as the ornithopter. Da Vinci proposed the idea of a machine that had bird like flying capabilities. Today no ornithopters exist due to the restrictions of humans, and that the ornithopters just aren’t practical. During the eighteenth century a philosopher named Sir George Cayley had practical ideas of modern aircraft. Cayley never really designed any workable aircraft, but had many incredible ideas such as lift, thrust, and rigid wings to provide for lift. In the late nineteenth century the progress of aircraft picks up. Several designers such as Henson and Langley, both paved the way for the early 1900’s aircraft design. Without the revolutionary technology he was a part of today’s military would not be the same.
Even with its more recent founding in 1970, Airbus still has a roughly even market share of aircraft as Boeing, which was founded in 1916. Each aircraft manufacturer each has their perks and they both have their disadvantages. Boeing and Airbus each have a similar safety record within the past six years. Comparing each aircraft manufacturer in its entirety does not accurately represent the safety information of Airbus or Boeing. To be able to differentiate each aircraft manufacturer, we need to compare similar aircraft from each company. Safety is a big deal when referring to drones. According to Boy Scouts of America, an operator should have a basic understanding of a few safety rules before he/she starts flying.(www.scouting.org) You should keep your drone in your eyesight at all times and you should not intentionally fly over unprotected people or vehicles. You also should remain at least 25 feet away from individuals and vulnerable property. These rules are very simple, and yet they prevent a lot of harm. Imagine if you were flying your drone one day, and it went out of your sight. That is no big deal, right? Well, you would be correct unless you find your drone beside a person that appears to have been knocked in the head by it. After making sure everyone is okay and no one needs medical attention, you are still responsible for any damages. You may even get sued. If you get sued, you could be found guilty because technically you broke the law of letting your drone out of your sight. The rules can save drone operators a lot of stress, money, and time. It wasn't until much later that I realized how well-outfitted his workshop was, full of specialized tools; he'd taught my father how to be the same kind of hands-on man, and I thought all Grandpas and Dads had special lathes, band saws, table saws, jig saws, buckets of nails, vast arrays of screwdrivers and dozens of varieties of sandpaper in their basements.
As civilians use drones and as improve technologically, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is looking closely at the safety of civilian drones. To ensure that drones are safe for civilian use and that civilians around drones are safe, a company known as Modovolate Aviation filed a petition with the FAA to streamline regulations that would impose pre-sale technology requirements. (Perritt, et al., 2016) The regulations not only addressed the drones themselves, but also potential licensing requirements for users. After all, even though many see civilian drones as toys, the technology still falls into the definition of aircraft. According to the FAA, an aircraft is “any contrivance invented, used, or designed to navigate, or fly in the air.” (Perritt, et al., 2016). Essentially, because drone technology falls into the FAA’s broad definition of aircraft, many validly argue that the technology should be regulated by the FAA.

As the development of aviation industry grows, more and more aircraft crashes occur. There are many reasons that lead to aircraft crashes, but one of them, is because of improper aircraft maintenance. Why is proper aircraft maintenance so important? Proper aircraft maintenance is critical in order to keep the aircraft can function properly, every aircraft part is in good condition and ensure the safety of pilots and passengers. Proper maintenance has many parts. The most common part is inspections, which pilots do them every day; the main part is overhaul and repair of an aircraft; and maintenance documentation is another important part of aircraft maintenance which improper maintenance documentation has caused many incidents.
