M -commerce or mobile commerce is a young concept which can be viewed as a subset of e-commerce made possible by the widespread adoption of portable, handheld devices as mobile phones. In present scenario M Commerce has been entered in various sectors as finance, services, retails, and telecommunication and information technology services. In these sectors-Commerce is not only being widely accepted but also it is becoming more popular mode of business/commerce. Now, it’s turn to enter in agriculture sector. The Indian economy is agriculture based economy and needs a second green revolution. It is possible only through the transfer of technologies from lab to land. Knowledge transfer to the agriculture sector with necessary inputs is most important. The country has a widespread telecom & internet network, which could be put to effective use for delivering knowledge and information to the farming community. This paper aims to study the key elements and basic issues of m-commerce and to know how farmers benefit from mobile-commerce/m-commerce in India. Key words: Mobile- Commerce, M- Agriculture, Agriculture. Introduction The picture of telecom industry had changed when reliance communication introduced affordable and low priced mobile service in India and Indian mobile market have become second largest mobile handset market in the world . The phenomenal growth in mobile phone usage has produced a new avenue for marketing applications and services. Mobile has become the leading way for accessing communications because setting-up mobile network is cost-efficient, but also mobile provides greater flexibility and accessibility to users than landline phones. The Government should formulate a policy on the both level state and central in order to optimize the benefit of the it. Public Private Partnership would be very effective in this scheme. Banking sector should make credit facility easy and approachable through mobile phones. Various ICTs initiatives as Gyandoot, Kisan call center, etc. should be promoted at large scale to improve the adoptability new technology by farmers. Timely and actionable information from relied sources, locally applicable, storable and reference able and access of experts may enhance the effectiveness of mobile services. Video calling and confessing facility may further enhance the quality of communication. M-commerce can a phenomenal achievement in Indian agriculture if it would be developed and structured according to the need and capability of farmers .
