Sports, Politics, and Advancements in Science in 1979
The year 1979 was an important year for many reasons. One reason was because of the world of sports. This helped keep the world entertained during the year 1979. Another important area in 1979 was the area of politics. This area caused both happiness and grief, especially in the United States. The third area that was influential in
1979 was the area of science. There were many important advancements and discoveries in the science field during 1979. The year 1979 was important because of sports, politics, and the advancements in science.
Sports are very influential in American society. The World Series of 1979 is no exception. The World Series hosted the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Baltimore Orioles. The Pirates won the first game while
Baltimore bounced back to take the next two games in convincing fashion (Ivor-Campbell). Down three games to one, the Pirates rebounded in Game Five (Ivor Campbell). The Pirates took advantage of their momentum and held on to stage an amazing comeback and win the
World Series of 1979.
The World Series is not the only important sports event. The Super
Bowl is an event watched by millions. Super Bowl thirteen was the
Super Bowl played in the year 1979. The game was played between the
Steelers and the Cowboys. Terry Bradshaw threw a record 4 touchdown passes to lead the Steelers to the victory (NFL Record and Fact Book).
The Steelers became the first team to win three Super Bowls. The
Steelers scored seven points in the first, fourteen points in the second, no points in the third, and fourteen points in the fourth quarter to seal the victory over the Dallas Cowboys (NFL Record and Fact Book).
Politics was also an important factor in the year 1979. The
President of the United States in 1979 was Jimmy Carter. Jimmy Carter was a major influence in the United States. Jimmy Carter proved to be an able negotiator (Microsoft). Carter helped develop the framework for the Camp David Accords. Carter’s relationship with the Congress, however, was often strained. Many members of Congress did not feel that he was a capable President. Some felt Carter was aloof and clumsy at political dealing. Carter eventually won congressional approval of a program to decrease U.S. dependence on imported oil by encouraging alternative sources of energy and deregulating the price of oil and natural gas produced in the United States. This program, however, caused a rise in inflation which now reached its highest point since the end of World War II in 1945 (Microsoft). President Carter’s problems
"One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind," said by Neil Armstrong as he took his first steps on the moon during the NASA Apollo 11 expedition to the moon. No man has ever been to the moon before and NASA, The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, was the first to get someone to land on the moon. NASA has had many great accomplishments in exploring the "new frontier" that have affected the United States ever since it was first created in July 1958. The idea for NASA first started when the Soviet Union launched the first satellite on October 4, 1957. United States started up its own space travel program and started to work on its own projects that would be better in than the Soviet Union's. This all started the great space race. It was a big race between the Soviet Union and the United States to see who could learn and discover the most. The United States and Soviet Union started building and sending satellites and space ships. Then they tried to see who could make a suit and ship that would be able to allow a living thing to go up in space. They tested out all of the equipment with monkeys and dogs, seeing what would work. Many animals did die in the process but by the results of their testing they were able to build suits and ships that allow human beings to go up in space. Even though they were able to create these machines, that doesn't mean that they didn't have their difficulties and dangers. Two space shuttles were crashed or blown up. There were many key factors that they had learned to fix that resulted in the crashing of those ships. They have made many discoveries and accomplishments like having the first astronauts walk on the moon.
The 1970’s was an era of political, environmental, and technological awareness. This era provided the American people with information and inventions that would positively shape the future of the United States. Awareness brings about optimistic thinking and change. This is exactly what happened in the 1970’s. Political awareness brought about accountability for the government and politicians. Environmental awareness brought about consumer and governmental accountability in energy usage. Inventions in the 1970’s were the platform for technology age that Americans currently rely on daily.
On July 20, 1969 Neil Armstrong planted the first human footprints in the lunar soil. The United States had accomplished their goal in sending men to the moon. They managed to not only send them 238,857 mi. (384,403 km) into space to our neighbor celestial body, but also send them back with a successful flight to our mother earth. This seems like a difficult task for a country that was behind Russia in space exploration at the time.
The moment astronauts set foot on Earth’s Moon, in July of 1969, the legacy of the United States’ space program changed forever. Countless Americans watched the launch and landing of Apollo 13 on their televisions with pride on that day, proud of their country for achieving such an insane goal as walking on the Moon. While NASA, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, struggled through obstacle after obstacle, invented new technologies and advanced old ones, placed the first man on the Moon, because the Soviet Union threatened to beat the U.S. to the space frontier, the nation greatly congratulated the feat that began the technological era. After forty-five years, however, the awe Americans held over NASA’s programs dwindled considerably. Although NASA no longer holds the nation in awe over their moon mission achievements, NASA programs remain vital to the United States because they advance everyday technologies, inspire creative visions, and discover greater knowledge for the entire public to benefit from.
In today’s time we now have cellphones, smaller computers, and cars that to us when driving but before the Apollo Program faster technology didn’t even come to your mind. Americans having hope for accomplishing goals was another thing that didn’t come to mind for many, all everybody could think of was the war and who is watching the United States. Having gone to the moon, the U.S. now has a new way of discovering different technologies to meet everyday society. Technologies that were present during the time of the Apollo Program were not as state of the art as they are today. A computer during the 1960’s only could do simple math and possibly small shapes for the most part, but with the discoveries from the teams at NASA and the Apollo Program computers can be made into many shapes and sizes with more than just 2 things. They are also now made to make calls, research materials from the internet and download app to meet the needs of people in the society. In 1969 a regular computer size was equivalent to 72 kilobytes (KB) of storage. Now when someone owns a computer or any source of technology has on average 1310 KB of storage which is 150 times larger than when the Apollo Program was occurring. Some may say that if there was a better source of technology for the Apollo Program to occur then the astronauts of America would have been to the moon sooner than July 20,1969. After everything that
The fight more political dominance is still today as prevalent and intense as ever. The party would not be able to hold onto the presidency for more than a couple terms every so often. They battled the democrats for control and each party would succeed for eight years then hand over power to the opposite side for another eight or four years. Neither party could keep control like the democrats did in the early 1800’s or like the republicans did after the Civil War. As the democrats changed their political strategies and views, so did the republicans. Once the liberal party, now almost 100 years later they turn into the conservative party dealing with less government control and big business. As the second major political party in the United States, it had had quite an impact in history and there is plenty a time ahead.
The 1970’s are a decade of finding your self. In this decade, there were scandals, sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll. The years between 1970 and 1979 were very crazy. In this paper are people that helped shape the 1970’s
To begin with, the discussion board was exceptionally captivating and revealing about the events, which happened in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Truth be told, I discovered the remark about the soldiers from the Vietnam War, not being honored and were spit on and shouted at very fascinating. Under those circumstances, it is appalling in light of the fact that as indicated by Moody and Sasser (2015), “ yet not all the Boomers were protesting against the war in Vietnam. On the contrary, many of them were fighting in that war or were opposed to the protesters” (p. 459). Yet, it is good to hear your relative is partaking in a Soldier Care ministry program.
Regardless of the current economic strength, the United States government has failed its citizens repeatedly, which has led to some major economic downfalls in the past. Some of these failures include The Great Depression, the 1981 Recession, and the Great Recession of 2007-2009. The Great Depression was a worldwide economic catastrophe that caused unemployment rates to surge and pushed economic production rates to fail. The early 1980s recession was marked by astronomical interest rates, accompanied by high unemployment and the rising cost of living. The sharp decline in the economy that was considered the most significant failure since the Great Depression came to be known as the Great Recession, also called the Recession of 2007-2009. The
The Yom Kippur War took place in 1973 between Israel and the Arabs furthermore the 2 superpowers played subtle roles in this event . Israel won the war however with a higher cost then any previous wars . While the war did not conclude in an Arab military victory, both the Egyptian and Syrian armies had regained their honour and prestige(1). The War of Yom Kippur suprised the world in the means that it showed that the Arabs were a force to be reconed with. In summasation the war paved the way for significant changes to take place in Arab-Israeli relations.
“On July 16, 1969 the world watched in anticipation as three men were hurtled skyward in a rocket bound for the moon.” (news.nationalgeographic.com). This was the Apollo 11 spacecraft, the first successful manned mission to the moon. This mission was the product of the space race (race to see who would go into outer space first, against the Soviet Union). This goal was set by President John F. Kennedy on May 25, 1961 and he promised that we would be the first to step on the moon by the end of the decade. The Apollo 11 mission is often cited as the greatest achievement in human history. (news.nationalgeographic.com)
...years behind then we are in technology today. The moon landing is one of the most significant events in American history because of the superiority and triumph it had given the United States.
“That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” It was July 20 1969, the day that reshaped our nation and gave us unparalleled dreams for the future. The impact of the day goes far beyond our pride and nationalism; that day would change space exploration and technology forever. Just like a shooting star, that day would give us a glimpse of hope. A chance to see an event so breathtaking and defying, it would be man’s greatest accomplishment in the 20th century. As millions of people watched from their TV sets, a rush of euphoria came over the nation as Neil Armstrong stepped foot on the surface of the moon. It was the first time in the history of mankind that we would step on the surface of another celestial body. John F. Kennedy dared us to dream, he inspired the nation to reach for the moon, to set ourselves apart from the rest of the world. The Space Race was symbolic of many things. Our future as the technically dominate nation was secured in place; just as secure as Old Glory would be, when she was driven down into the soil of the moon. We not only reached the moon, we conquered it as a nation; united.

Trigonometry is the branch of mathematics that is based off on the study of triangles. This study help define the relations between the different angle measures of a triangle with the lengths of their sides. Even though trigonometry is the study of triangles, it is mostly used to study right angled triangles with the six functions: sine, cosine and tangent, and their reciprocals cosecant, secant, and cotangent. These functions are made by the corresponding points to the infinite number of angles that are present when continuously rotated in the unit circle. Because of this, each of the trigonometry functions has a tendency to repeat itself after every complete rotation around the unit circle. (Pierce) Since everything in math can be applied in real-life situations and problem, trigonometry has many applications in the real world as well, such as in architecture, astronomy, and in music. Likewise, the purpose of this essay is to further explore and research the real world applications of trigonometry in music. Music is a subject that intrigues me because it is like a whole other language on its own. It is very unique with its notation system and different styles, just like in literature. Thus, I wanted to learn more about its background so it can help me to better understand its concepts, like how the human ear receives music and how it can interpret high notes and/or low notes when it is by itself or when it is harmonized with others.
