Recommended: The interplay between culture and technology

This course of cultural geography has taught me new and old ideas along with theories that help shape the world. Before I started this class, I was not sure how well I was going to like it. I was not ever interested in geography and always overlooked ideas of culture. It was an idea that I never truly understood. However, these ideas were more broad and interesting than I anticipated. I began to understand what Geographers meant and what all was included within the idea of cultural geography. The world is always changing and I have learned that cultural geography is a way to keep pace with what is changing and understand how the world has gotten to where it is. Geography is the study of all these changes that will shape our future world and the environment and beliefs within it (Greiner 2012). Cultural geography has changed my view of the world and I have learned aspects of geography that has attracted my interests to learn more in and beyond this class.
The first idea that I learned about was human geography, which is the study of people and the environment that surrounds them (Greiner 2012). This was when is started to learn about the aspects of nature, culture, and place and how they all relate to one another (Greiner 2012). It showed me to view the world as special place that needs care. Then the ideas of globalization and cultural geography expanded on the thoughts discussed in human geography to describe the beliefs of certain people in certain regions (Greiner 2012). This begins to set up the rest of the book. It talks about the studies of populations and the movement of immigrants, also known as migration (Greiner 2012). My cultural geography class has had a bigger influence on my thoughts about the world than I ever would have imagined. My mindset is much different and I respect the work of geographers. I started this class thinking that their work was irrelevant and boring, but I have learned that Geographer’s duties and jobs are important to our history. It also helps to look at to determine tendencies. I have analyzed my preconceived notions and realized the importance of culture and geography and how intriguing it truly is to learn about. This class is one of the most enjoyable classes that I have taken since I have attended Oklahoma State University.

    As Americans we live in isolation, surrounded by advertisements, electronic screens, fast food, the internet, etc. We live these lives while thousands scream out in hunger and thirst begging to nourish their families.
