The United States Navy is the second oldest branch of the military and is the largest branch if you encompass it with the marines. The U.S. Navy is also one of the most important branches of the military. Each other branch would practically be nothing without the Navy. The difference is that the navy and the Marines would be able to remain functional without the help of any of the other branches of the military. The reason they could remain functional without the other branch’s is that the navy and marines cover all aspects of warfare together thus making the navy the most flexible branch of the military (Navy.Mil).
First off, the U.S. Navy alone is the second largest branch of the military but that is not counting the marines who are coupled with the navy. The navy has 317,054 active duty personnel as of December 2013 and close to 104,650 reservists. It operates 341 ships and over 3,700 aircrafts ranging from Fighter jets such as the F-18, AWACS such as the E2-C Hawkeye, and helicopters such as the CH-46 Sea Knight. The U.S Navy operates 10 aircraft carriers actively; these carriers house over 5000 sailors for periods of 6-8 months. Overall the U.S. Navy is a force to be reckoned with no matter what country we face off with (Navy.Mil).
The Navy is very flexible having its own Special Forces team too. The U.S. Navy Seals are one of the most elite fighting forces in the world. They are able to operate in all environments, including sea, air, and land. Their training is some of the most advanced in the entire world taking some, thirty months of blood sweat and tears. In conclusion, without the Navy many of the essential missions that the Military is known for doing would not be possible. No other branch would be able to transport as many troops and weaponry or supplies to the battle zone. The Navy is also able to provide mobile air support, without Aircraft carriers if we wanted planes in the air we would have to construct airfields in the country we wanted to attack. They are also able to provide a nuclear safety net that no other branch could and finally they are the only branch able to provide humanitarian relief on a large scale for almost any disaster.

If a nuclear war were to break out between the Soviet Union and the United States, virtually every major city could be destroyed in a matter of hours. ‘’The only easy day was yesterday’’, is a famous saying for recruits that are doing physical training and mental challenges to become Navy Seals. Who are the Navy Seals? What do they do? Well, the name Navy Seal is named after the environment in which they operate, sea, air and land and there are the foundation of Special Warfare combat forces. Most Seal missions are unreported and unknown to the general public. The Seals are trained to operate in small units, one or two men, or a platoon consisting of sixteen or more men. Not all Seal teams are made for everyone, in fact 80% of the men who attempt to become one, fail or will drop out. To become a Seal you must have dedication, hardwork, and a lot of commitment.
Loyalty, Duty, Service, Honor, Integrity, Courage, Commitment. The seven Army values, the three Navy core values, and the three Air Force core values: each branch of service possesses a codification of values and characteristics embodied by servicemen and women for generations; simply picking a handful of these qualities presents a logical and justifiable option for defining the essential qualities of a military officer. It is true an officer must personify and uphold such values, however, interpersonal skills and self-confidence are also invaluable traits necessary for the highest level of leadership and excellence demanded of a military officer.

Since the day the Marines were formed, they have developed into a highly respected military branch, where they have accomplished many achievements and took on many responsibilities. The Marines have, and will always play an important role on how Americans fight in wars today. With all the help the United States gets from the Marines, it helps guide troops through ferocious battles like many they have gone through but faster and with more force. There are many famous and infamous people out in the world that served a good purpose fighting and helped them get where they are today. Last and foremost, the Marines take on far more responsibility than people can accredit for. Many people should be grateful for what they have because if it wasn't for, the few, the proud, the Marines, they might not have made it to where they are today.
There are many things that have impacted my life in a positive way as a result of my military service. For starters, joining the Navy was huge. It got me organized and opened my eyes to an entirely new world, and not just the military service world. The variety of experiences that I’ve had in the service interacting with people from all over the world has helped me grow as a person. However, from the day I entered service, one item or one rank in the structure of the Navy struck me as critical to the operation of the Navy. That item or rank was the position of the Chief Petty Officer. As I entered service I quickly discovered that the Chief was the go to guy and the old saying “ask a chief” had a profound meaning. The Chief was a leader, mentor, and an expert in just about everything, all qualities that I lacked at the time. Then, twelve or so years later, the life changing event for me of being selected as a Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy came to fruition.

Japan’s greatest weapon was its Navy and without it they were a much less threatening and much less effective enemy. Since Japan is an island there are two ways on and off boats and planes and in one battle Japan had lost almost all of their boats and planes. For the Japanese a Navy was crucial, it was an integral part of their Pacific “domination” and without it they would be unable to expand their empire. Also, the Japanese empire had stretched over many, many miles of open ocean, and without a Navy the Japanese would have a hard time stopping the Americans from taking away the Japanese Empire. The Japanese unlike the U.S. did not have basically unlimited resources to rebuild their Navy. Also, with the huge loss at Midway the morale of the Japanese as a whole was at a low.
This career is important to society because every great nation needs warrior’s battle ready to defend it from oncoming threats and onslaughts. During the late 1980s, the Iranian Hostage Crisis was an issue the United States government was unable to solve. The purpose of SEAL Team 6 was to devise and inspect operations before they were put into action. The group’s first commander was Richard Marcinko; he was responsible for both leading the team and accepting members. No ordinary civilian is able to become a member of SEAL Team 6 though- he or she is required to complete continuous months of difficult training. If the candidate is fortunate enough to be inducted into the team, he or she will embark upon life threatening missions. Not only do ST6 implement operations in foreign countries, but also in the United States. Ever since SEAL Team 6 was formed, not only has national security increased but government security has been greatly strengthened.

Every Marine has gone through boot camp, each sacrificing blood, sweat, and tears. One thing that has never deteriorated in their years of existence is the fact that they have yet to lose a war they have put effort in. Is this exceptional record due to their extensive training? Is it because of their aggressive nature and mindset? What is to follow may shed some light on these questions and perhaps give some type of insight on how the Marine Corps was so prevailing and what conflicts had they had conquered. 1775, November 10th. This date is memorized and celebrated by every United States Marine as something of excellence, a date of honor. This date is non other than the "birthdate" of the Marine Corps. It was on this date that the Continental Congress passed a resolution to create two operational battalions of American Marines. These men would ultimately be headed by Captain Samuel Nicholas, of the United States Naval department. It was in Philadelphia that the first Marines were grouped and trained for their inaugural mission. The three hundred Marines that had been recruited, were placed aboard eight transport ships, all destined for the beaches of New Providence (the Bahamas). Upon their landing on March 3rd, 1776, they fought up the beach, sweeping through a barrage of bullets, and took command of two small stone forts and a number of military storage complexes.
In the thirty-eight years of the United States Naval Submarine Service no United States submarine had ever sunk an enemy vessel. With the ignition of the Second World War the poorly equipped and poorly trained Silent Service, nicknamed for the limited access of the media to the actions and achievements of the submarines, would be thrust into the position American submariners had longed for. The attack on Pearl Harbor left the United States Navy with few options for retribution. The three remaining aircraft carriers were to be “the last line of defense.” Commander Stuart S. Murray made the precarious situation clear to his skippers, captains, upon sending them on their first war patrol. He stressed the importance of smart sailing by warning them not “to go out there and win the Congressional Medal of Honor in one day. The submarines are all we have left.” We entered the war with 55 submarines, 27 at Pearl Harbor and 28 at Cavite in the Philippines. At first our submarine strategies lacked ingenuity and failed to use our subs to their full potential. United States subs were assigned to reconnaissance, transporting supplies, and lifeguard duty, picking up downed airmen and sailors. They were even, on occasion, sent to rescue high profile Americans on the run from the enemy or from islands under enemy siege. Although their ability was, unfortunately, wasted in our entrance to the Pacific Theater the Silent Service would soon gain the recognition its men yearned for.
Air Force Special Operations The United States of America is a powerful and well known force throughout the world. It has become a superpower of nations in just about three hundred years, being one of the newest nations in existence today. Its military reaches out into several countries in the globe and holds a presence as a peacekeeper and wielder of democracy. Of the US military’s five branches, the Air Force is the ruler of the skies, keeping control of the earth’s aerospace.
