The Life of Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13, 1743 in Albermarle County, Virginia. He went to college at The College of William and Mary. Later, he studied law with George Wythe. Jefferson was elected into the Continental Congress on March 27, 1775. A year later, in 1776 he was chosen to help four other men write the Declaration of Independents. Thomas Jefferson was involved in things such as; law, and politics. He also was a statesman. He was elected Vice President under John Adams, which made him be the second in the history of the United States, in the year of 1797. He served as Vice President from 1797 to 1801. When Jefferson was elected President, he was only 57 year old. He was elected in 1801 right after being the Vice President. In 1802, Thomas Jefferson sent James Monroe and Robert Livingston to buy New Orleans from France, but Napoleon needed money to support the wars in France. so France offered the two men the whole Louisiana Territory plus New Orleans for $15 million, which is about 4 cents an acre. The two men bought the land without telling Jefferson. Jefferson like the idea and told everyone it was a treaty with France. To explore, he sent Meriwether Lewis and William Clark in 1803.
The Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase is one of the most important because it doubled the size of The United States. In 1802 President Thomas Jefferson sent two men James Monroe and Robert Livingston to buy New Orleans from the France. At the time, France was in a few wars and Napoleon needed money for the things France needed for war. France offered the two men the Louisiana Territory and New Orleans. ... was President he issued an ultimatum and The British comply. This caused The War of 1812. If I had to choose a side on either the war hawks or the doves i would choose the war hawks. I would choose this side because I think that they needed to realize the rights we had for being our own nation. It wasn’t very beneficial, but we proved a point that we are not playing around when it comes to things like impressment. We also got them to stop impressment of our ship and the crew members that were aboard at that time. It took us a while for all of us to come to an agreement on some things so we could sign a treaty, but after almost two years we did. We signed The Treaty of Ghent in 1814. This war also strengthened us as a nation by making us more known of the power we have in our military. In the end i think war isn’t sure a bad thing as some people put it.
