Disneyland

The greatest place on the face of the earth is Disneyland. Nowhere else

has the magic that a day at Disneyland possesses. From my childhood to my

adulthood, I have never experienced a day at Disneyland that didn't put enough

joy in my heart to far exceed the admission price. Rides, shops, shows, and

characters. These are just a few of the many great aspects of a wonderful

place called Disneyland.

Disneyland has always been a very special place to me. My parents took

my family there for the first time when I was about three. To this day I still

remember shaking Mickey Mouse's hand, giving Goofy a hug, and meeting all of the

rest of my favorite Disney characters. It was a truly euphoric experience to

meet stars of all my favorite cartoons that I so loyall...

    The loss of her beloved husband kept Blanche’s mental state in the past, back when she was 16, when she only cared about her appearance. That is why at the age of 30 she avoids bright lights that reveal her wrinkles. Blanche does not want to remember the troubles of her past and therefore she attempts to remain at a time when life was simpler. This is reinforced by the light metaphor which illustrates how her life has darkened since Allan’s suicide and how the light of love will never shine as brightly for Blanche ever again. Although, throughout the play Blanche sparks an interest in Mitch, a friend of Stanley’s, who reveals in Scene three that he also lost a lover once, although his lover was taken by an illness, not suicide, and therefore he still searches for the possibility of love, when Blanche aims to find stability and security.

    To keep her image of being wealthy and of high class, Blanche owns a lot of fake jewelry. As Stanley rummages through Blanche’s trunk, he questions about her accessories, “Pearls...bracelets of solid gold, And diamonds! A crown for an empress! A rhinestone tiara!” (36). Stanley sees right through Blanche’s phony world and searches for evidence to prove it. Williams use of props to portray fake jewelry dramatically illustrate Blanche’s dream of youth as she continues putting these on because of its illusion to happiness but the fakeness of them only confirm that her fantasy will never exist in this new America. Consequently, Blanche also avoids light. When Mitch first meets Blanche, she has him take the “little colored paper lantern...and put it over the light bulb” (55). The light in this case represents truth and reality. Blanche will not face the light directly and often shades it with a lamp cover. She intentionally avoids showing her real face and age in fear of losing her persona. After meeting Mitch, she realizes that he could be a possible suitor for her in her fantasy world and has him cover it to create shadows and illusions that hide the reality. Near the end of the play, Blanche starts to worry about the cleanliness of things she has consumed.
