Ever Since the band was started in 1977 by Pete Willis and Rick Savage, Def Leppard became one of the most successful bands of its time. They fitted in with more established heavy metal bands and really stood out. As Def Leppard‘s popularity grew, their success also grew and they became the leaders of the 80s British heavy metal renaissance. The members age did not stop them from becoming a huge part of 80s music history. Along with the many problems in the band and tragedies they went through, it was not enough to bring down the famous sound and spirit of Def Leppard (Def Leppard/ Rollingstone).
The lead singer, Joe Elliott was brought into the band in a weird kind of way. He met Def Leppard pretty spontaneously after he missed the bus to school. They were all teenagers at the time in the late 70s during the initial forming of the band. Joe brought with him a different sound into the band, one with a soft rock influence. He was a follower of bands like Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin, which gave him a softer kind of approach to writing songs. This was not a bad change for the heavy style playing Def Leppard at the time because of some early hits it had produced which put them on the map. One of Def Leppard’s founders Rick Savage, who also plays bass guitar for the band, was born in Sheffield, England too. The band was in need of a bassist and at the time Rick was a guitar player along with Pete Willis. The band was formed in 1965 in Sans Francisco with a mix of sounds from several different genres of music such as Folk, Bluegrass, Jazz, Country, Blues, and Physicadellic Rock. The original members were as follows: Jerry Garcia doing lead guitar and vocals, Bob Weir was the youngest member of the band playing rhythm guitar and vocals. Ron "Pigpin" McKernan played keyboards, Phill Lesh has always been the basist. Bill Kreutzmann played drums at first but was followed by Micky Heart in 1967 as a seccond drummer. When Pigpin died at the tender age of 27 of liver failure, Keith Godchaux joined on as the new keyboardist, with him he brought his wife Donna Jean to help with backup vocals. Eddie Van Halen was born in Holland in 1955 and immigrated to Pasadena California. At the age of seven, Eddie was training as a classical pianist, although his love for Rock and Roll was developing. He started working a paper route and used the money to buy a drum set. His brother Alex, also musically inclined, bought a guitar. After months of practicing, Alex and Eddie switched instruments. Alex would spend hours on Eddie's drums and loved to play them. Eddie, a little frustrated with the drums, picked up Alex's guitar and felt at home with the instrument. Eddie would sit in his room for hours memorizing Eric Clapton guitar rifts' from "Cream". In his teenage years, Eddie and Brother Alex Van Halen played in local clubs and local parties in California. They started become a big name in the local area of Pasadena California. A police officer once commented that the parties that the Van Halen brothers played at were so big, that the police were looking for where the party was in a four-block radius. There would be almost 2,000 people attending house parties when the Van Halen brothers played. The Grateful Dead was a famous rock and roll band throughout the 1960’s. They had a lot of ups and downs during their time as a band together. Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Ron “Pigpen” McKernan, Phil Lesh, and Bill Kreutzmann were all in the band together. The Grateful Dead played a variety of music but mainly they were a rock and roll band; blues, reggae, country, folk, and space rock.

The Dave Matthews Band has been a musical power house for years. They have meshed together almost every type of music together to create their extremely unique sounds and attractiveness towards their music. Dave Matthews, lead singer and guitarist from South Africa has put together a band that no one will ever be able to create again. Dave picked four extremely talented and unique sounding men to join his band and together they have created some amazing music. The members of the band include Stefan Lessard on bass, Boyd Tinsley on violin, Leroi Moore on saxophone and one of the best drummers in the world, Carter Beauford. Together these men will one day leave behind a similar reputation as one of the all time greatest "jam" bands of time.
The band consisted of many different members with different musical backgrounds. Ron McKernan was an organist who loved the blues, where Phil Lesh had very formal training in classical music. Bill Kreutzmann, the drummer for the Dead, has a history of playing R&B and jazz. Though the band continues to influence artists to this day, other bands helped shape and inspire their sound. The Grateful Dead first decided to go electric and create a rawer sound after seeing the Lovin’ Spoonful live in New York.

The band consist of 8 members, Nathan East bassist/vocals, Andy Fairweather-Low, lead guitar/vocals, Steve Ferrone- drums, Chuck Leavell-key boardist, Ray Cooper- tambourines, Katie Kissoon and Tessa Niles- vocals, and Eric Clapton- composer, rock n roll guitarist, lead vocalist. The band members dressed in casual attire. The band members were professionals, they knew exactly how to orchestrate every chord, they collaborated with the lead singer and each other in ways that wasn’t so noticeable to the audience but they knew which chords to use for every song, the band was a top notch team. The tempo of the songs were a mixture of fast, slow, to a medium style beat. The texture of the songs was homophonic and well put together lyrics. The style of the music was from the 1960s-1970s which genres were rock, blues rock, psychedelic rock, hard rock, jazz and blues.
I believe that the history of rock and roll demonstrates a link between culture and social class race, and age; by the way a genre brings all the people in these different categories into one big group. When rock and roll began to emerge people from different cultures and social classes started to come together as a group by the way they dressed. It was not only the music but also the fashion it brought along with it. People from this era changed the way they dressed, styled their hair and their means of transportation. This brought together people from different cultures and social class, race and age all together.
The members of the group are Jimmy Page, born on April 9, 1944, Robert Plant, born on August 24, 1948, John Paul Jones, born on January 3, 1946, and John Bonham born on May 31, 1948.
The third important member of ELO was Richard Tandy. Tandy was born on March 26, 1948 in Birmingham, U.K. At Moseley Grammar School he had been taught to play bass and guitar. Tandy’s first gig was at Solihull Civic Hall when he was fifteen. He was in many different bands before joining ELO.
Linkin Park is a new metal band from Los Angeles, California. It has been an active band since 1996. Their labels are Warner Brothers Records and Machine Shop Recordings. The six members are Chester Bennington, Mike Shinoda, Joseph Hahn, Brad Delson, Rob Bourdon, and Dave Farrell. Mike Shinoda and Brad Delson recorded the band's first material in 1996. The two had attended high school together, where they met the band's drummer, Rob Bourdon. Mike Shinoda hooked up with DJ Joseph Hahn while studying illustration at Art Center College in Pasadena. Meanwhile, attending UCLA, Brad Delson shared an apartment with bassist Dave Farrell, who left the band after college and returned a year later. At this point, they named themselves Xero and recorded several demo tracks. They never got signed. Then Mike Shinoda decided to hire a vocalist, and put out an ad. They got Chester Bennington, an Arizona native who started making records when he was 16. Once he joined the band, they changed their name to Hybrid Theory.
In early 1970 the band Queen was formed. Freddie Mercury on vocals, Brian May on guitar, Roger Taylor on drums and Mike Gross on bass. They had known each other for years. All living in the town of Kensington in Britain, sometimes even living together. Brian and Roger belonged to a band called Smile, and Freddie was a very talented vocalsit playing for the band Ibex. They decided to join forces, to better themselves, and their chances of obtaining fame and fortune. After a few months with only a few gigs Mike Gross left the band. He was replaced by Barry Mitchell, who only played a few gigs with them. After a few short months they were looking for their third bass player. Roger, was at a party one night and was introduced to John Deacon, an electronics major at the University of London and a good bass player. The two hit it off, and Deacon became the new member of Queen.
