Aaron Thomas Mrs. Turner Business English 5 October 2017 History of Apple Apple’s revenue is at a staggering $215,639,000. The company is third on the Fortune 500 list. Apple was started by two college drop-outs who turned out to change the entire technological field. Apple is now one of the most innovative and popular companies in the world. Steven Wozniak and Steven Jobs were a match made in Heaven. The two knew each other in high school because they were both interested in technology, and so they kept in touch after they graduated. Both of them dropped out of college, and began working for companies in the Silicon Valley. Wozniak worked for Hewlett-Packard, and Jobs worked for Atari. This is when the idea of “Apple” was thought up. “Jobs, who had an eye for the future, insisted that he and Wozniak try to sell the machine, and on April 1, 1976, Apple Computer was born.” (Rawlinson) The Apple wasn’t extremely popular. No one really took Apple very serious. In 1977, Apple began to take off because of the release of the Apple II. The Apple II was, “The first personal computer to come in a plastic case and include color graphics.” It was by far the most impressive personal computer out there. This was the invention that got Apple started on its journey to becoming one of the biggest, richest, and most important companies in the world. Apple is continuing to release more amazing inventions. The iPhone is by far Apple’s greatest invention, and it keeps on getting better. The first iPhone was released in June, 2007. It was the most technologically advanced phone the world had ever seen. The iPhone reinvented the phone. It has given millions and millions of dollars to charity. The company has given so much money towards great causes. Apple has given $10 million to the Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Harvey relief efforts, about $8 million to the American Red Cross, $1.82 million to the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights group, $130 million to RED to fight against AIDS/HIV, and $50 million to hospitals just to name a couple recent donations. Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, is an extreme advocate for helping others and the world. He has made it one of his missions to give back to the world, and he is doing a great job. Cook is an extreme philanthropist. He plans to give his entire fortune to charity, except for the money that says is closing in on a billion dollars–is certainly in line with the attitude Jobs drilled into Apple: the need to forget limits and reshape the possible. Focused through Cook’s desire to give back, the Jobs Optimism is a strike at the traditional executive policy of hoarding wealth.” Cook is also promoting diversity throughout the tech industry, “Since Cook took power, the company has also donated millions to nonprofits that promote diversity in the tech industry. In the wake of violence involving white supremacists in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017, Cook announced that Apple was making $2 million in donations to anti-hate groups.” Tim Cook and Apple are making this world such a better place, and that is one of the many reasons
