Every organization wants to provide a good work environment to all employees to attract possible employees, ensure retention and guarantee employee satisfaction. This protection to employees is due to the fact that employees are the most valuable asset to any organization. Providing a safe and secure work place is the employer priority to ensure the employees health, safety security and wellness.
The terms health, safety and security are closely related to each other. Health is the general state of the well being. It not only includes physical well being, but also emotional and mental well being. Safety refers to the act of protecting the physical well being of the employee. It will include the risk of accidents caused due to machinery, fire or diseases. Over the past 80 years the legal aspects of human resources has transformed. Establishing the right kind or employee to form unions and define certain parameters as the time frame of the work day and employee’s right’s (Fallon and McConnell, 2014). Not having a human resource management in place can be costly to the organizations I f not in compliance with the legislations laws. In this paper I will discuss five major laws that passed legislation and the impact they have had on human resource management in healthcare.
We, as people in the workforce, are depended on to follow through with work commitments. A healthy employee is able to do more and feel well enough to enjoy it. We strive to do our best but how can we when we have low morale at the office. Healthy employees directly impact the bottom-line of all companies, from the sole proprietorship to the large corporation (1996). Keeping health-care costs low, boosting morale, increasing productivity, and reducing the absent rate is a payoff that every good business owner should recognize. When a small business is trying to become larger, having employees who are healthy and stress free is important. Losing a member of an already small number due to being ill is not the way to succeed. Working in an environment that is happy and productive is the perfect place to work, regardless of what the job is.
It is right of a patient to be safe at health care organization. Patient comes to the hospital for the treatment not to get another disease. Patient safety is the most important issue for health care organizations. Patient safety events cost of thousands of deaths and millions of dollars an-nually. In addition, Administration and staff shall cooperatively develop appropriate procedures and regulations for ensuring employees' health and safety, with special emphasis on the handling of potentially hazardous equipment or substances and for investigating and reporting any accidents and mishaps. All newly employed staff shall be required to comply with the physical examination. Every employee must provide annually, at a minimum, an updated health history of current health problems.
