Recommended: Night by elie wiesel book review

The Holocaust was a terrible time in history; many innocent people were killed, all because of their faith. The book Night by Ellie Wiesel portrays the vigorous journey Wiesel and his family undergo throughout this torturous time. The holocaust wasn’t just genocide against the Jews; it was also a long process of dehumanizing them too. Their valuables were taken and their heads were shaved stripping them of their identity.
Dr.Mengele was a Nazi doctor and scientist that did many studies on the twins of the camps; he essentially used Auschwitz as his own personal laboratory. Twins in the camp were his prime victims, one was used as the control and the other was used for testing and experimental factors. Many of these twins were murdered during or after the experiments. Mengele would perform extreme surgeries without any anesthetic. Other experiments ranged from lethal injections, chemical testing, castration, pressure chambers and exposure to other extreme traumas (“Angel of Death”). Eva Mozes Kor and her twin Miriam Mozes were survivors of Dr.Mengele’s experiments. Eva explains how she and her sister were discovered by Mengele in the camps.
“Everything was moving very fast, and as I looked around, I noticed my father and my two older sisters were gone. As I clutched my mother’s hand, an SS man hurried by shouting, Twins! Twins! He stopped to look at us. Miriam and I looked very much alike. Are they twins? he asked my mother. Is that good? she replied. He nodded yes. They are twins, she said.” (“Eva and Miriam”).
In the holocaust having a twin was much better than having a normal sibling, because Mengele wanted his experiments to run smoothly the twins had to be healthy. They bunked with other twins and were provided with extra ...

...omeone else lying in his father’s cot. His father had passed away while Eliezer was sleeping. Shortly after the camp was liberated and Eliezer was freed, but he was no longer the same due to all the violence he had endured over the years in the camps.

If Elie would have intervened in the various situations that occurred in the camps to his father or if he would have kept on giving his rations to his father, he might have died also, either from getting beat by an SS officer or from starvation. Sickened by the torment he must endure, Wiesel questions if God really exists, “Why, but why should I bless him? Because he in his great might, had created Auschwitz, Birkenau, Buna, and so many other factories of death? (67). Throughout the Holocaust, Wiesel’s faith is not permanently shattered. Although after his father dies, his faith in god and religion is shaken to the core, and arguably gone. Wiesel, along with most prisoners, lose their faith in God. Wiesel’s loss of religion becomes the loss of identity, humanity, selfishness, and decency.
