The Grudge
The Grudge is a magnificent horror film based in Japan. Many years ago a family of three lived in that house- Kayoto, her husband and their little son, Toshio. Kayoto fell in love with Peter, her lecturer and wrote about him a lot in her diary. When Toshio’s father found out, he killed Kayoto and Toshio, and then hanged himself. When they die the curse is on the house and whoever enters the house will get cursed and eventually die.
During the credits the background is bright red which symbolizes blood plus the fonts of the credits are dark blooded letters. The words that feature are “death, fury and curse which suggests that the film would be in the horror genre. At the same time the background music is playing which is a piano sound. This is effective because it tells the audience that the red background is linked to blood.
In the opening scene of the horror movie Peter is calmly standing on the balcony and then suddenly jumps off. The director uses a tracking shot which leads to Peter. Then there is a close up shot of Peter’s girlfriend when she is in a state of shock this is effective because it demonstrates the emotions immediately. While this is happening broken chords are playing in the background to create tension. Then there was a tracking shot, to see Peter. In the background broken cords are playing, the tempo increases. This is effective because it shows the audience how far Peter has fallen down and creates suspense. It leaves the audience stunned and confused because Bill Pullman is a famous actor. The audience don’t expect Bill Pullman to die so early in the movie. The director uses this technique because it keeps the audience wanting to watch on.

...ve because the audience want to know where the phone has gone. They trace the sounds to the where they discover the corpses of Matthew and his wife.
They also make the grisly discovery of a human jaw and wonder to whom it belongs and where the rest of the body might be. When they find the jaw the audience gets into the movie much more and want to see what is going to happen next in the movie or will there be a part 2. This is an effective technique because it makes the audience wanting to carry on watching the movie.
The grudge is by no means an excellent film, but it’s an incredibly effective and stylishly horrifying. Storytelling maybe isn’t this film’s strongest point, but I also don’t think whoever made this film was trying to make a masterpiece of modern storytelling either- the purpose of ‘The Grudge’ is to scare, and at that it most definitely succeeds.
Although it may been seen partly as a historical accident forced by budgetary constraints, part of the mystique of the film is in how different it was to the horror audience of the day. Romero and the Image Ten team, working with black-and-white in a day in which most mainstream films were released in color, were able to use the black-and-white film to lend a certain documentary feel that evoked feelings of newsreels of the day, which were still shot in black-and-white (Hervey 26). This certain credibility evoked is one that is likely lost on contemporary audiences that grew up in a time in which the news and documentaries are delivered in color, but modern audiences should see parallels in the way The Blair Witch Project co-opted the use of VHS cameras to produce a low-cost horror film with a realistic feel to it.

This book showed the struggle between rich and poor. The two main groups of the story were the Socs and the greasers. The Socs are in the upper class while the greasers are the poor ones that dislike the Socs because they have more money, better cars, and act like they are better than the greasers. The Outsiders is a good story by S.E. Hinton that shows the struggles of growing up Hinton did a fine job with the character development, the plot, and the theme with a few flaws.
In this essay the five Rhetorical concepts will be defined, examples will be used from the movie The Outsiders directed by Francis Ford Cappola. Logos is an appeal to logic, and is a way of persuading an audience by reason. Ethos is an appeal to ethics, and it is a means of convincing someone of the character or credibility of the persuader. Pathos is an appeal to emotion, and is a way of convincing an audience of an argument by creating an emotional response. Telos is the end of a goal-oriented process, also an ultimate object or aim. Kairos is the opportune time and/or place, the right or appropriate time to say or do the right or appropriate thing.
Alongside Moore’s use of V as the main character in V for Vendetta, Moore uses a Guy Fawkes mask to disguise V’s identity. Throughout the novel, this Guy Fawkes mask becomes a symbol of rebellion against tyranny. Moore includes a crucial quote in V for Vendetta that shows his intention for the Guy Fawkes mask to exist as a major symbol throughout the novel. Moore states, “Behind this mask there is more than just flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea... and ideas are bulletproof” (Moore 83). This quote speaks volumes about Moore’s idea to use this mask to help set the stage for what is to come by the main character, V.
People are addicted to the synthetic feeling of being terrified. Modern day horror films are very different from the first horror films which date back to the late nineteenth century, but the goal of shocking the audience is still the same. Over the course of its existence, the horror industry has had to innovate new ways to keep its viewers on the edge of their seats. Horror films are frightening films created solely to ignite anxiety and panic within the viewers. Dread and alarm summon deep fears by captivating the audience with a shocking, terrifying, and unpredictable finale that leaves the viewer stunned.
The Shining is about a white middle class dysfunctional family that suffers from natural and supernatural stresses in an isolated Rocky mountain hotel. .The father, a former teacher turned writer, is portrayed as a habitual drinker, wife- and child-abuser, with a kind of evil streak The mother is shown as a battered woman. The film suggests that due to the abuse at the hands of his father and the passivity of his mother, the child of this family developed psychological problems. He had imaginary friends and began to see frightening images.
Many of the first film elements that can be found in this movie work as an introduction to the two main characters of the story. These elements are meant to force the spectator- even one who had never heard speak of, or seen the two Hollywood stars shown on screen- to focus their attention on them.
Throughout the whole movie these elements help each other out to make the movie a great movie and fall in the horror genre. Each element helps each other by making the next scene better than the one before. It has the storyline come to live, and having people thinking what can happen next or who has the power in the movie. By seeing this movie it can make someone feel complete and satisfied for a long

This essay will analyze the various events that changed Michael and detail his transformation. The shooting of Vito Corleone is Michael’s motivation behind the assassination of Sollozzo and McClusky. Michael’s subsequent exile to Sicily is followed by the incidental murder of his wife. These major events in Michael's life lead to Michael’s inevitable transformation as the new leader of the Corleone crime family.
The Outsiders was written by Susan Eloise Hinton. It is one of her most popular books about foolish gang rivalry existing between the Socs, the rich kids from the west side of town, and the Greasers, the poor kids from the east side.

The Godfather is the story of a Mafia family. It follows the rise of Michael Corleone within the family. Michael was once a war hero and did not want to be involved in the family business. When his father is shot though, Michael takes revenge on the people who did it and becomes a part of the Mafia lifestyle. When his older brother is murdered, Michael ascends to become the boss of the family, and proves to be more ruthless than his father and brother combined. The scene that I am analyzing is one where Michael is becoming his nephew’s godfather at his baptism.
The use of non-diegetic music alongside of low-key lighting and what was chosen to keep off-screen cued the audience into feeling the thrill that Klute and Bree were feeling throughout the investigation. Although it was finally revealed that Cable was the culprit, a first time viewer could not be positive that Cable was the man they were looking for. By not revealing Cable as the man behind everything, every time the music played the intenseness was still present. In addition, the occasional high-key lighting did not decrease the power of the music because other reasons to feel suspense were shown. Klute is a prime example on how the combination of non-diegetic music alongside of other elements can help cue the audience into feeling how the director wants them to feel.
Entrails torn from the body with bare hands, eyes gouged out with razor blades, battery cables, rats borrowing inside the human body, power drills to the face, cannibalism, credit cards, business cards, Dorsia, Testoni, Armani, Wall Street; all of these things are Patrick Bateman’s world. The only difference between Bateman and anybody else is what is repulsive to Bateman and what is repulsive to the rest of the world. Bateman has great interest in the upper class life, fashions, and social existence, but at the same time he is, at times, sickened by the constant struggle to be one up on everybody else. On the other hand Bateman’s nightlife reveals a side of him never seen during the day. Bateman is relaxed, impulsive, and confident while torturing and killing. He doesn’t have to worry about being better than anyone else. The only competition he has is his last victim. Torture and murder are the two true loves of Patrick Bateman.
