The food crisis is a conflict that approaches and affects the whole world. The world food crisis has been created by mainly large amounts of population; this is because there are so many people living in each country. The large amounts of people have an effect on how the farmers because it keeps getting harder to harvest enough food for the whole population. Therefore the price for many food product goes up and it becomes harder and harder for the average person to do their shopping. In America alone around 15 percent of the inhabitants are receiving food stamps from the government to purchase food with this is because they alone do not have the sufficient found to do this. The world food crisis strikes the third world countries the worst, these countries do not have the money to give there inhabitants food stamps. Most people in third world countries cannot afford regular food; this is because the farmers cannot grow enough food and or because the weather cannot sustain proper farming. For example many countries get hit by bad weather and natural disasters. Besides that a farmer can on average only harvest in some months and not all.
The biggest solution is to start to use green house farming. Green house farming was developed around 30 A.D. It was developed by the ancient royal Roman physicians who constructed a specularium. This specularium was a house dedicated to growing plant and maintained fires outside the stone walls to heat the air inside. It also had a translucent roof crafted from thin sheets of mica which allowed the sunlight to go through.[1] This then over the years got transformed into the modern day green house. The modern day green house is a glass construction which has water sprinklers, heaters, air-conditio...

...reenhouse structure alone is expensive because it has to be exactly perfect so that it insulates the air and keeps bacteria and insects out. Next too that fuel is also an expensive factor since the greenhouse uses high voltage lamps that run nonstop for a large part of the day. The fuel also has to be used for the air conditioning to keep the plants at a steady temperature and heating. Greenhouses can cause some little environmental problems and that is that they take up so much space next to that they do not cause any damage.
Overall the greenhouse farming approach is among all the best way in fighting the present and future world food crisis because of many reasons. Mainly because it creates an ideal living environment and produces more harvests and better harvests then a normal farm does. This is why the greenhouse approach is a very realistic and good approach.
By implementing new farming techniques provided with the new technological advances in machines we can see abundant harvest in even the poorest third world countries. For example, the Green Revolution has already showed admirable progress in the northern part of India ever since it took start in 1950. By 1997, northern India increased its grain production by 37 percent. This has proven that traditional farming methods are being rendered obsolete. And because by the year 2000, there will be half the land per person in developing countries as there was in 1970, we need to apply ultra-efficient methods to sustain the growing need. Not only does the Green Revolution enhances food output, it also preserves the environment.
Due to large and excessive amount of these gases being discharged into the atmosphere by human innovations, the greenhouse effect is extending and this is causing the rise in earth's temperature that we have been encountering in the last two centuries. Since 1750, the use of carbon dioxide alone has risen about 36%, and since 1880, the earth's temperature has raised 1 degrees Fahrenheit. Although this may not be a huge increase, but the consequences it leaves on our environment and the organisms that live in are harmful and life-threatening. Adoption of this kind of quick change in temperature is challenging to plants and
Greenhouse effect has become the major issue to the world when the world has starts to become civilize and industrialize. Greenhouse effect happened because of human’s greediness and all countries are starting to find out the method to solve the issue of greenhouse in this twenty-first century. Everyone is now focus on greenhouse effect because greenhouse effect produces huge damage and pollution to the natural system , human and mostly affected are wildlife.
Greenhouse gases have both advantage and disadvantage. Greenhouse gases are the several group types of gases that can be absorbing solar radiation in the atmosphere such as carbon dioxide, methane, and water vapor. Approximately 75% of the radiations that come from the sun were absorbed by greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Moreover, about 50% of radiation that was absorbed by greenhouse gas was radiated downward to Earth surface. So because of this phenomenon sustained the overall Earth’s temperature limited it into the proper amount that all of the living thing can be lived. However, greenhouse gases could be the big deal if there are becoming too much. Since the Industrial revolution happen the human activities, fossil fuel comb...
The major reason why nations spend vast amounts of money on the reversal of climate change is simply because of industrial agriculture. Contemporary practices emphasize production over sustainability. For example, La Via Campesina (2009) stresses the importance of soil. The transnational movement for traditional agriculture emphasizes that soils are main driving factors for food. It is the starting point for growing food, no matter the method of production. However, over the last 50 years, industrial agriculture has caused the loss of “30 – 60 tonnes of soil organic matter for every hectare of agricultural land” (p. 14). For an integral part of agricultural production, industrial practices clearly do not think long term. To promote fertile and healthy soil, which results in nutritious and bountiful food, nations must cut back on industrialization. On small-scale farms, industrialization and mechanization is not a necessity. Small producers are able to rely on sustainable, and environmentally safe practices to produce food. La Via Campesina (2009) argues that by replacing nitrogen fertilizers by organic agriculture, or cultivating nitrogen-fixing plants, we can promote true agrarian reform (p. 7). Of course, this type of production would be labour-intensive, but the amount of energy output from mechanized production would be drastically
In order for us to maintain our lives, we need to consume food to supply nutrient-needs for our bodies. As the global population increased, the demand for food also increased. Increased population led to mass production of foods. However, even with this mass production, in under-developed countries, people are still undernourished. On other hand, in developed and developing countries, people are overfed and suffering from obesity. In addition, the current methods of industrial farming destroy the environment. These problems raised a question to our global food system. Will it be able to sustain our increasing global population and the earth? With this question in my mind, I decided to investigate the sustainability of our current global food system.
Pros are that if the earth had no greenhouse on the atmosphere all the sunlight the goes into the earth's atmosphere will escape and if it did then all plants will die because plants and trees need sunlight to grow and if the earth didn’t have any plants and trees then oxygen that is made from plants will stop making which humans can’t survive without it. If plants all die then every living thing on the plant will die in time but there are cons for greenhouse gases if humans make too much carbon dioxide then there will be too much sunlight. Living things can’t take too much of, in fact, it will start out just a sunburn then will lead to heat exhaustion that will lead to diseases like heart stroke and skin cancer and it will have a big chance of death. Greenhouse gases also cause sea level rise and it had and will be a bigger problem in the nearby future in fact
...ling the food crisis. Many states have implemented some sort of policy in facing the food price increase. There are seven countries that have reduced the taxes on food grains, four countries have price controls, one country has fuel subsidies, four countries have applied export restrictions, and five countries that are feeding at school. With the large amount of hungry people in the world, there is only a couple countries doing anything about this crisis. Looking at the graph below, you can see how states in different parts of the world are dealing with the food price increase. According to the graph, East Asia is doing most to carry out policy actions by reducing taxes on food grain and increasing supply using grain stocks. South Asia seems to apply price controls and provide consumer subsidies the most and Near East and North Africa seem to do the most of nothing.
The saying goes, “the Earth does not belong to man. Man belongs to the Earth”. Society needs to remember that they do not create or sustain Mother Earth. Instead of seeking to dominate and control Earth, humanity needs to respect and protect the environment. In order to survive, an individual requires food, water and clean air. The only way to achieve sustainability is by taking care of the planet which in turn, produces the fruits and gives society the resources it needs to survive. When the agricultural revolution occurred and reached the United States, it helped produce large amounts of food to feed the growing population. Now in the twenty-first century, many agricultural methods have been modified and updated to match the growing demand for food. While it may seem beneficial, many of the modern procedures for food production and distribution across the world have an astronomically negative effect on climatic change. However, simple steps can be taken by consumers and the food industry to dramatically decrease the output
Collier, Paul. "Annual Editions: Developing World 11/12." Article 14. The Politics of Hunger: How Illusion and Greed Fan the Food Crisis, Edited by Robert Griffiths, 61. New York, NY: McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc., 2008.
Food is an essential to everyone on the planet. That is why food security is always a crucial issue. It means life or death to many people. Our ability to feed the entire planet is often debated. The root cause of why there are so many hungry people is not always easy to figure out. We see mass amounts of excessive waste in wealthier countries, while many live impoverished and die from a lack of food in other countries. The disconnect seems to always be there no matter the amount of aid that is given or food that is grown. The problem is not always a lack of food, but much more a lack of wealth. You must have money to eat it, it is not a given right. Food is about money, and how accessible food is comes down to the price of it. There
Another solution includes reforestation. Many cases of forest being taken down to make space for big corporations and malls. Mostly all plants need three things to grow, Light. Water. Carbon dioxide. Lucky for our situation we have plenty of our last option carbon dioxide. With building our forest back, it is having a way of being able to soak carbon dioxide naturally. To invest into building, multiple forest built back up, is as well investing into planet earth's
Food insecurity defined, is ‘the state of being without reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food’ (Oxforddictionaries.com, 2014). This in turn leads to hunger, which can have three possible meanings; 1) ‘the uneasy or painful sensation caused by want of food; craving appetite, also the exhausted condition caused by want of food’, 2) ‘the want or scarcity of food in a country’, and 3) ‘a strong desire or craving’ (Worldhunger.org, 2014). Food insecurity also leads to malnutrition, with 870 million people in the world or one in eight, suffering from chronic undernourishment (Fao.org, 2014). From this alarmingly high figure, 852 million of these people live in developing countries, making it evident that majority of strategies used to solve this problem should be directed at them (Fao.org, 2014). The world produces enough food to feed everyone, with an estimated amount of 2,720 Kcal per person a day (Worldhunger.org, 2014). The only problem is distri...
Climate Change, in general, is very detrimental to the world’s farming. Agriculture has a strong negative connections with global warming is different ways. The factors like drought, fluctuating temperature, varying seasons make it hard for the farmers to grow crops. The production failure of today can affect the future. The growing population along with the food demand and the problems of heavy crop losses because of global climate change requires the urgent development of plans to improve food availability in future.
There are a number of sustainable farming practices and some of these are in place on my
