The Grapes of Wrath is a novel published in 1939 and written by John Steinbeck, who was awarded the Pulitzer Prize and the Nobel Prize for Literature.Steinbeck wrote The Grapes of Wrath at his home, 16250 Greenwood Lane, in what is now Monte Sereno, California. Set during the Great Depression, the novel focuses on a poor family of sharecroppers, the Joads, driven from their home by drought, economic hardship, and changes in the agriculture industry. In a nearly hopeless situation, they set out for California's Central Valley along with thousands of other "Okies" in search of land, jobs, and dignity. Although this might seem as a great book, the grapes of wrath has been banned, burned and challenged since it became published in 1939 for reasons such as "sexual references", and "vulgar language." My first point will be about how John Steinbeck uses powerful images to target the reader, and invoke true emotions upon reading the book. My second point is why John Steinbeck uses a very effective technique by inserting interchapters to create a mood of chaos and confusion. My third point is how John Steinbeck causes struggle and suspense in parts of the book.

The Grapes of Wrath is an important commentary on humanity and society, and is intended to evoke intense feelings o the readers. John Steinbeck, the author, attempts to illustrate many true emotions about the book and the history and reality that it was based on. Steinbeck uses images that are very effective and have a large impact on how the reader perceives the characters. Some of the images show the strugles that the Joad family survived through, and others show strength, hope, and endurance. ...ved late, and by good luck there was a spot open. At the government camp there was showers, hot water, and toilets. The camp was orderly and clean and they had there own government. The police could not enter inside the camp with out a warrant too. The very next morning after arriving Tom was hired at a man's farm. But no one else in the family could get a job. While they were living their the police tried to stage a fight so they could get in a clean it out, but it failed.

In conclusion, readers need to be more accepting and acknowledge the work that has been published. John Steinbeck illustrates to the readers what type of talen he has. The grapes of wrath should not be banned because the author uses effective techniques, use of powerful images to create a better understanding of what is going on, and also struggling and suspense to keep the reader hooked.
