Marriage is a precious gift given from the good lord up above. Marriage is a privilege that should be allowed to only a man and a woman. In the bible there are many scriptures that back up my opinion on marriage, and none of the scriptures say same sex marriage is okay. In this modern day and age people are altering the definition of marriage. People are trying to add between a man and a man or between a woman and a woman. The importance of my topic is to keep the original definition of marriage which is, a union between a woman and a man where they become husband and wife. In this paper I will claim that the new modern day definition of marriage is wrong and the original is right. One example of why the original definition of marriage should not be changed comes from the bible. The bible says marriage is between a man and a woman, not the same sex. In the bible the most important and probably most well-known scripture to back this up is Genesis 2:22-24. In this bible verse it says, “Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman, ' for she was taken out of man." For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.” (NIV) God created marriage as a gift to Adam and Eve. They were created perfect for each other. Marriage was not just for convenience, it was instituted by God. While being instituted by God there were three important aspects. First the man would leave his parents and in a public act would promise himself to his wife. Second, the man and woman are joined together by taking responsibility for... ... middle of paper ... ...fe. The new definition of marriage added that marriage could also be between people of the same sex. The definition is wrong and I gave examples to show why the new definition is wrong. The bible, history, religion, pros and cons were all implicated to prove the definition was wrong. This is America, one nation under God, and in no way should allow the changing of the definition originally made by God. In history this was never allowed, so why change it now? It is the permanent bond between one man and one woman whose two-in-one-flesh communion of persons is an indispensable good at the heart of every family and every society. Same-sex unions are incapable of realizing this specific communion of persons. Therefore, attempting to redefine marriage to include such relationships empties the term of its meaning, for it excludes the essential complementarity between man and woman, treating sexual difference as if it were irrelevant to what marriage is (“Marriage: Love and Life in the Divine Plan” 22).

The word marriage means many things to many different people. To some people marriage is a religious ceremony, and should remain a religious union, without any interaction by the government. For others marriage is a legal contract, which should benefit both parties involved in the marriage. According Wikipedia.com, most people define marriage as “(1) the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as a husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law (2) the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of the traditional relationship.” Not only has the type of contract marriage is become so controversial, but also the idea of who exactly is allowed to be married is an unresolved issue. Due to so many conflicting views on marriage, some people have wanted the government to define the word marriage, while others feel that it is not in the government’s job description to do so. As a result the Federal government did decide to define it with the proposition of the marriage amendment. What the marriage amendment states is that “Marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a man and woman. Neither constitution or the constitution of any state, nor state or federal law, shall be construed to require that marital status or the logical incidents thereof be conferred upon unmarried couples or groups.” However despite efforts by the government to solve matters/issues of marriage, more problems in fact come out of this. The marriage amendment should not be in motion because it goes against the very idea of federalism, takes away civil rights, and also takes power away from the courts also.
Marriage, specifically monogamous, lifelong committed heterosexual marriage, serves as the cornerstone for many Western civilizations; it is the foundation upon which societies have historically been built around (Hornberger, Zabriskie, & Freeman, 2010; Wall & Miller-McLemore, 2002). Karasu (2007) argued that marriage is the, “central way of organizing personal and social life” for a society (p.5). Marriage has been described as, “regulating the reproduction of children, families, society, [it] is a public sexual union that creates kinship obligations and sharing of resources between men, women, and the children their sexual union may produce” (Gallagher, 2002, p. 772). Karasu (2007) provided commentary as to whether marriage is a terminable
The institution of marriage is typically known as a religious rite. When religious people think of marriage they think of God and the church. Traditionally, people also think of one man and one woman. Same-sex marriage will change this philosophy. Religious leaders across the world agree gay marriage will alter marriage forever. Same-sex marriage and homosexuality are topics religious leaders of the world connect and agree on. A variety of religions, such as Buddhists, Protestants, Catholics, Mormons, Jews, and Muslims, have...
The major objective of this specific Mosaic legislation was not to replace God’s original intent of marriage as a lifelong union of a man and a woman, but merely to provide direction where the Creator’s original design for marriage was not followed. Throughout
As a predominately conservative nation, it is ideal that we as a group do not redefine the term marriage under the Constitution of the United States. It is not a question of equality, simply because men and woman will never be equivalent—both parties have different complex qualities from their hormones, genitals, brain functioning, and to their overall genetic make-up. Homosexuality holds about 5% of the population, meaning that the majority would be forced to conform to the minority. It is imperative that we recognize the consequences of gay marriage which include: health risks, redefining sexual morality, reduction of the population, many being affected spiritually, and forcing the government to change laws to accommodate the minority.
Christians will argue that God created marriage and has given us the principles for marriage that must be followed. On the other hand, atheists think marriage started with man. In marriage, the man has ownership of the woman. In this piece the Bible will be used as historical evidence, not to sway the audience to either side, but to argue each side. Comparatively, documents of man made marriage will also be used so that the article pertains to the origin of marriage
What is a marriage? According to Webster’s Dictionary, a marriage is “the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law.” It can also be stated for those of the same sex, but for the purpose of this paper it will be examined from a heterosexual standpoint. In a heterosexual marriage, you will find conflict between the husband and the wife and this is where religion is supposed to help out.
Allowing same-sex marriages would change the basic definition of marriage. Marriage is an important commitment of a man and a woman who contribute to civilization. Therefore, the loss of contributions due to someone’s sexual orientation should not be rewarded with a privilege such as marriage. Same-sex marriages affect many factors such as children, the concept of marriage, and humanity. However, it is not a misdemeanor to love somebody of the same gender but it can rigorously damage many aspects of life.

About thirteen states in the United States of America do not allow gay marriages and have put letting gay people get married
God intended for us to be united with the opposite sex since the beginning of time. The book of Genesis tells us: "God created man in his image, He created him in the image of God, man and woman, He created them. God saw what he had done and said, "This is good, it is not good that man should be alone."(McLachlan 5). Marriage is inherently good and pleasing to God. It was part of God's original plan for mankind. It is also shown that Jesus held marriage in great esteem, for it was at a wedding where he performed his first public miracle. Furthermore, it is Jesus who raises Marriage to a Sacrament of the New Law. Our Lord is also the one who told us that divorce was wrong. He says, "What God has joined together, no human being must separate."(Matrimony 1).
Many people believe in a traditional marriage between a man and a woman. God created man and woman to be faithful and produce children. Same-sex marriage is contrary to the word of God and the laws of nature; therefore, it is incompatible with the beliefs, sacred texts, and traditions of many religious groups. Many biblical scriptures talk about how immoral same-sex marriage is.
The opposition should consider that the definition of marriage, although on paper is the same, is not anywhere near the same as it was when our grandparents, or their grandparents got married. Marriage, centuries ago, had more to do with the woman being the property of the man than anything it is associated with now. Marriage is a lot more than that. Marriage legally binds you to the other person, giving you access to just about everything in their life. For the sake of argument, let us picture two men, very in love, but one is dying. Let us assume that these two men love each other just li...
