Global Warming: A Climate in Crisis

919 Words2 Pages

Global warming is destroying our earth. We, as humans, are responsible for global warming. Global warming is gasses that are trapped in the atmosphere. These gasses are water vapors, carbon dioxide and methane gas. Do you heat your home with gas, drive a car, or know someone who works at a power plant? These are just a few contributing factors of global warming. Gasses that are emitted from power plants and your automobile are fossil fuels. These fuels include oil, gas, and kerosene. Where do these gasses go? They are trapped in the atmosphere under what is called a green house effect (Time for Change p.1). I take the position that I do believe in global warming. It’s not just scientists who are taking notice, I’m taking notice. I’m trying to find out what I can do to support the global warming cause and save our earth. One way I plan to save our planet is to purchase a fuel efficient car that uses solar power. In the future, I plan to purchase solar panels for the heating of my home. I plan to support the scientists’ belief that global warming is an emergency situation. The United Nations founded a group of scientists called the IPCC. The IPCC stands for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. This group studies the latest in global warming and writes a report including all that is known about global warming (What Causes Global Warming). According to the IPCC, global warming could lead to famine and water shortage. The IPCC defines climate change as change in the climate that is directly linked to human behaviors that have forced changes on the climate over a period of time (IPCC, Annex 1). The effects of global warming are prominent in certain parts of the world.
