A baker wakes up before dawn to start the run of wheat bread before the bakery doors open for business. A long haul trucker pulls into a truck stop to fill up his fuel tanks with biofuel, and a sugar plant operator in the United States is excited knowing the coming years the plant will have a new breed of sugar beet. This is all part of how genetic modified crops are being produce for human consumption. Genetic modified food crops have advanced agriculture fields to an all-time high. This advancement in genetic modified plants has offered the ability to use fewer pesticides, limit the amount of erosion from plowed ground, and control forbs in crops with herbicides knowing the crop will not die. I have read many of articles in farming, and corporation magazines, and in the future agritech companies will be offering crops that will resist heat waves, and droughts. They are doing this because they think the world climate is getting warmer, but I see this different. The world has been evolving million and million of years, and how many times has scientist found evidence that we have extinction caused by heat waves, all I can remember are the ice ages. As the world population has increased man has come up with the technology to produce genetic modified food crops to keep up with the demand for food crops consumption, and crop by-products. Are Mother Nature species given way to man-made crops? Yes only because man is forcing this to happen. The effect of western farming practices and technology on the world’s ecosystems and the health of human race will have consequences that are going to be long-lasting.
