In Mocking Jay by Suzanne Collins, Katniss takes on her new position as the rebel of district 13 which is a secret district that is rebelling against the capitol. Katniss and a few of her friends were lucky enough to escape from the second hunger games but, Peeta was not so lucky as he was captured by the capitol. Peeta warns district 13 about the capitol’s plans of bombing district 13, and Katniss and the rest of district 13 retreat underground for a few days and when it is all clear, Katniss makes a propo while a rebel team goes to retrieve Peeta back from the capitol. The rebel team successfully retrieves Peeta but find out that he has been brainwashed and now thinks that Katniss is the enemy and tries to kill her and fails but kills her sister and other rebels. Scout's upbringing as a young woman greatly contrasts that of her brother Jem. Jem is educated as a young boy growing into a man while Scout’s journey is taken as a woman. Good Morning class, Today I will be discussing one of the many flaws in society, Gender stereotyping. Present in our, Movies, Adverts and literature my 4 books are no different. Despite this ongoing gender stereotyping I still think it is essential to have these novels even if there are clear stereotypes in them. If we aren’t able to read identify and acknowledge such stereotypes, how will we ever know how to differentiate between novels that stereotype and those that don’t.
This quote is significant because it shows the gender roles that is used in the Finches home. After Aunt Alexandra came over to visit for a few weeks/months, many gender roles were changed. Aunt Alexandra felt like the head of the house, because she is trying to put the pride of the family back in her brother’s house. She was so consisted of changing the roles in the house. She wanted Scout to become the girl that every female should be, and wanted the family pride to once come alive in Maycomb, after Atticus made the decision of helping a black man. In her time period, female were discriminated and man were superior to women. Women were well educated back during the Great Depression, but wasn’t that superior to the men because they didn’t had their rights back there.

In the novel The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins a new country is created. Panem is born in place of North America, were the Hunger Games began. In the Hunger Games, there are 24 tributes. Tributes are people who live in the districts. The tributes in the Hunger Games are all the same. They kill one another and become the Capitols puppets. The tributes become violent, emotionless puppets. Then there is Katniss. Katniss is an excellent hunter and becomes lethal during the games. However, she has not lost her compassion. Katniss does not think of herself as a good person. When in reality she is a good person with a large heart, who puts others before herself.
The Capitol’s appearance deceives the tributes and the surrounding districts. As the train leaves the tunnel from the mountains and is flooded with sunlight Katniss and Peeta rush to the window to see what they would normally see on television with their own eyes.). This demonstrates an act of trickery by the Capital. Katniss further describes the, “glistening buildings…the shiny cars” (59) as having, “colors [that] seem artificial, the pinks to deep, the greens too bright, the yellow painful to the eyes” (59). Through this description that Katniss provides it showcases that the Capitol hides its true colors through this fake appearance of a happy, colorful place. During the interviews, Peeta indicates that he has had the biggest crush on Katniss Everdeen for the longest time but Katniss takes this the wrong way and Haymitch corrects her by saying, “"Who cares? It's all a big show. It's all how you're perceived" (135) Haymitch’s viewpoint demonstrates how characters must deceive the truth to strategically improve one’s chances to win the games. Katniss and Peeta use this budding romance to gain more sponsorships throughout the entire games. Since she is the female victor from district 12, she is in the 74th Hunger Games. She sees how painful and scary it is and so she tries to stop the capital which is who is controlling everything. She doesn’t want that to happen to anyone else. She rebels against President Snow in plan of eventually killing him to take over the capital and change the world. Teens can relate to this because a lot of the time we feel controlled. It might be by a parent, teacher, grandparent or someone else but all of us are controlled by someone. A lot of teenagers end up rebelling because they feel as if they have no choices. They go against the rules of who they are rebelling against. That persons rules and values are not necessarily right. Who decides what is right? It seems as if we have entered into a state time where there is no right and wrong. Katniss breaks free of that control and does her own thing. Another way teens can relate to the hunger games is through the love triangle. Some of us might have a similar situation of where we might like two people. In the movie it says, “What I need is not Gales fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can

For the most part the people of Panem seem to have come to accept this fact and just do what they can to get by. Peeta and Katniss are different. They prove that people from district 12 aren’t worthless but have the ability to win the games. They show that their gender does not determine or constrain what they have the ability to do. Through out the book, Peeta and Katniss teach people a lesson by continuing to challenge the status quo of Panem.
“Girl” written by Jamaica Kincaid is essentially a set of instructions given by an adult, who is assumed to be the mother of the girl, who is laying out the rules of womanhood, in Caribbean society, as expected by the daughter’s gender. These instructions set out by the mother are related to topics including household chores, manners, cooking, social conduct, and relationships. The reader may see these instructions as demanding, but these are a mother’s attempt, out of care for the daughter, to help the daughter to grow up properly. The daughter does not appear to have yet reached adolescence, however, her mother believes that her current behavior will lead her to a life of promiscuity. The mother postulates that her daughter can be saved from a life of promiscuity and ruin by having domestic knowledge that would, in turn also, empower her as a productive member in their community and the head of her future household. This is because the mother assumes that a woman’s reputation and respectability predisposes the quality of a woman’s life in the community.
In most countries, women only earn between 60 and 75% of men’s wages, for the same work. Sexism is still a problem in today’s society, but it has improved since Scout’s generation in “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Scout believes from an early age that girls aren’t good, and that she can avoid the judgement that comes with being a girl by not acting like one. Being a girl for Scout is less a matter of what she's born with and more a matter of what she does. Scout’s elders influence her perception of womanhood by putting preconceived sexist views in her head. In “To Kill a Mockingbird” Harper Lee shows the reader how all women are expected to act lady like and be proper through the actions of Mrs. Dubose, Jem, and Atticus.
The main character, Katniss, volunteers as tribute for her district to save her sister from having to be tribute. Upon arriving in the Capitol for the games, she sees just how vast the gap between the Capitol and districts are. To fight against this class struggle, she begins to revolt. At first this comes in the form of small things, like shooting an arrow at a pig feast of Capitol higher-ups and refusing to kill her friend in the games, resulting in the first ever co-victors of the Hunger Games. Katniss’ actions soon lead to full blown rebellion in the districts, starting a revolutionary war between them and the Capitol. At one point Katniss remarks: “My ongoing struggle against the Capitol, which has so often felt like a solitary journey, has not been undertaken alone. I have had thousands upon thousands of people from the districts at my side.” (Catching Fire 90).
