1240 Words3 Pages

Throughout the eons, nature has always been used as a form of entertainment, such as the Circus Maximas in ancient Rome, the Tiergarten Schönbrunn in Vienna, Austria, and SeaWorld in San Diego, California. During the course of human existence, flora and fauna have been used to bring joy to them through pleasure and recreation. Although nature is used for entertainment, there are some ways in which it should not. These could be examples such as dog fights and cock fights, which are mostly, if not totally, illegal in the United States. The first recorded use of animals for entertainment can be traced back before 3500 B.C., when the first zoo opened in Egypt. After which many zoos have opened during the reign of King Solomon and King Nebuchadnezzar, continuing on into modern times with such zoos as the San Diego Zoo and the Bronx Zoo. Nature is an amazing way to bring laughter and joy to people but there are many factors that are needed to be brought into consideration if they are to be used for purposes in entertainment; some of these are the treatment of animals in a humane way, making them feel just as free as any animal would, understanding that they have rights as well in this world, and not forgetting that they are animals and can cause harm if not treated properly. Primarily, one of the most important items that need to be put into consideration prior to the use of nature as a form of entertainment is the way that one treats the captive animals. Animals should be treated in a humane way whilst in captivity, because their lives are in our hands, and they have no way of controlling what we do to them. In the documentary, Blackfish, it shows the ways that SeaWorld treats its animals, and it is not necessarily in a humane way. ... ... middle of paper ... ...ll show the amazing qualities that nature has and a great way to recreate. Although nature is a great source of amusement, in a good way, there are many factors that need to be brought forth and looked over before one gets to comfortable with the idea. The main one is that animals need to be treated with respect and as any human would treat another human, in a humane way. Also, animals need to be given the same rights as humans would when it comes to treatments and other parts of captivity. Third and lastly, people also need to remember that animals are, indeed, animals, and nature can sometimes take them over and turn them against their trainers or the people that they are entertaining. So, overall, nature as a form of entertainment needs to have limitations and factors that need to not be ignored such as the above when one is using flora and fauna as entertainment.
