Fixing the Future

It took her a moment to gather her mind to one piece. This wasn’t the world she had been in, because she had a needle stuck to her hand. So, clearly she was back to the reality. She was also starving. To get her body return to its normal stability, she went to a drawer not far from the bed and took a food pill from the top drawer. It tasted like chicken and baked potato and she immediately felt more energetic and pulled the needle out despite the sting of pain it caused her.

Only after that she realized that the lights weren’t on. They should have been on. Smith was supposed to be fighting the enemy and turning the lights off wouldn’t work as camouflage when it was most likely still quite light outside.

The hallways were dark, too. She couldn’t see around herself much. There weren’t any windows. She went to the controls room, the door was open but there wasn’t anyone there. Her heart was beating fast in her ears. Could it be that the neudroids had gotten to Gamma and Anette? What else could possibly explain the darkness and that there were no sign of them anywhere around?

She tried the intercom at one side of the room, only realizing the futility of it after there was no reply. ”Idiot. No power, no intercom.” She huffed. It seemed impossible to think the enemy had won. Gamma never lost, it was part of his charm; despite taking everything lightly on the outside, Gamma never lost. It was like a law in her head. He might mess up sometimes, but he never lost. This single thought giving her hope, she started going through the ship one room at the time. Most of the rooms seemed to be just storages, filled with weird things.

There wasn’t a soul waiting behind any door after she’d used all her strength to open them. And the doors w...

Camilla stood in the middle of it all, rubbing her arms to keep the chills of discomfort under control. The woman inside Giles had creeped her out. It was obvious that she was the one who Gamma had been protecting her from, but she could have been able to kill her right there if she’d wanted to; Camilla would have never woken.

This realization made her legs feel weak and she wavered slightly, almost falling to the floor butt first. Anette was still close to her and grabbed her to support her before she did. She gave her a grateful smile before talking to Gamma again, who hadn’t even noticed her moment of weakness. Thank god.

”So, to get Smith properly fixed, you need help; but the get the help you should preferably have Smith fixed?” She needed to make sure. This didn’t sound too good to her ears.
