Do you have an escape route in case of a fire? If not, you should start working on one with your family. People can die because they don’t have an escape route. Here are some ways to get out of the house if it is on fire.
First, you should always have a meeting spot. A good place is by your mailbox, street-light, fire hydrant, or an electric box if near. Second, talk about how to get out of the house if you’re upstairs, downstairs, or in the basement. Let’s start with the upstairs. If you’re in a bed-room with the door closed, check to see if the door is cool. If it is, then it’s safe to go. Then army crawl to the stairs. Once you are at the stairs and you don’t see any signs of fire, slowly go down the stairs on your bottom. Next, if there’s no fire around crawl to the front door. While you’re doing that, look around to see if there’s any fire in front of you, beside you, or behind you. Once you get to the door, run out of the house and use a neighbors phone to call 911. On to the downstairs. If you’re sitting on the couch or making a sandwich, you’re lucky because if yo...

The One Meridian Plaza was a 38-story office building in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A firefighter responding to an incident in his or her personal owned vehicle must use the same due regard towards the public that he or she would if responding in a municipality owned vehicle. The lack of due regard resulted in a fatal vehicle accident on July 16, 2010, when “Firefighter Timothy Johnson of the Portage Ohio Fire District” collided with a vehicle driven by Olivia Duty, which resulted in the death of her boyfriend, Ian Huffman (Varone, 2012, para. 2). Timothy Johnson was responding to a mutual aid structure fire when the accident occurred (Varone, 2012). The parents of Ian Huffman and Olivia Duty, the driver of the vehicle Firefighter Johnson collided with, “filed a wrongful-death and personal injury lawsuit” with the Ottawa County Common Pleas Court (Feehan, 2012, para. 2). Firefighter Johnson additionally faced the criminal charges of negligent vehicular homicide and attempted negligent vehicular homicide, in which he entered a guilty plea and served 9 months in jail (Feehan, 2012).
In the story, the house attempts to save itself by decreasing the oxygen, spraying water, and chemicals. The author writes, “The house tried to save itself. Doors sprang tightly shut, but the windows were broken by the heat and the wind blew and sucked upon the fire.” ( Brandbury 3). The house smartly closes the doors to keep wind from reaching the fire in order to kill it. The text also states, “… scurrying water rats squeaked from the walls, pistoled their water and ran for more.” ( Brandbury 3). The water rats a spray water which could help extinguish the flames. Lastly, the author adds, “Now there were twenty snakes whipping over the floor, killing the fire with a clear cold venom of green froth.” ( Brandbury 4). The green chemical that is sprayed at the fire is most likely a futuristic version of fire extinguisher foam. Although
Safes that are rated for fires will help protect your valuables for a certain amount of time depending on the rating. Many people falsely believe that a safe is fireproof. There are no fireproof safes. A safe with less than a 1 hour fire rating will only protect your valuables for up to 1 hour, which might not be long enough in a typical home or business fire.
10. Some of the things that house does to try and save itself are: shooting water from pumps in the ceiling, closing and locking doors so that the fire won't spread, having the water rats shoot water until the house's water reserve was empty, and spraying the fire with a green chemical.
Morgan, Jacob, and I practiced a fire drill by setting off one of the fire alarms and then going to the designated area; for the fire we went outside in front of the neighbor’s home and for the disaster we went into the hall bathroom which is located in the middle of the home. Jacob told me that during a tornado warning, the family went into the bathroom and the boys got into the bathtub and his moms sat right outside of the bath. Jacob stated that they had pillows and blankets and they read books. The family appears to have a great understanding of what to do in the event of a fire or severe

Every year communities struggle each year around the nation with issues of life safety. In 2012, the nation’s fire departments responded to 31,854,000 responses that resulted in the deaths 0f 2,855 civilians and injuring 16,500 causing an estimated $12,427 million dollars in damage. (United States Fire Administration, 2014) These incidents put at risk 345,950 career and 783,300 volunteer firefighters that resulted in the deaths of 81 individuals (U.S. Department of Homeland Security, 2013) and nearly 70,000 reported injuries. ( Karter & Molis, 2013) These numbers represent incidents that are determined to be in the line of duty but do not take into consideration the long-term health risk issues that may develop. Evidence shows that he hazards associated with Fire and Emergency Services are consistent across the board whether paid or volunteer and jeopardize the lives and health of each individual, placing administrative and physical control measures reduces this risk to firefighter within an organization. While it is impossible to eliminate the hazards firefighters face, it is important to identify these hazards as the first step in reducing the potential for loss of life and wellbeing both physically and mentally.

In the case, “Facing a Fire” prepared by Ann Buchholtz, there are several problems and issues to identify in determining if Herman Singer should rebuild the factory due to a fire or retire on his insurance proceeds. I believe that this case is about social reform and self-interest. I think that Singer needs to ask himself, what is in the firm’s best economic interests. There are several things to question within this case, what should Herman Singer do and why, should he rebuild the factory or begin retirement, if he rebuilds, should he relocate the firm to an area where wages are lower and what provisions, if any, should Singer make for his employees as well as for the community?
Wildfires, "Controlled' wildfires specifically, they are said to help the environment and reduce chances for more extreme fires by eliminating hazardous fuels, but in reality they can cause more problems than they stop them. Fires are unpredictable and cannot be "Controlled," they can cause nearby homes to go up in flames and send smoke and ash into the air affecting residents near the area. Some may say they actually promote growth for trees and plants, but what science says is that fire actually does the exact opposite to plants and trees causing destruction to habitats and food for animals. Clearly controlled fires are a bad idea for the environment and people around us.
