Employees are a valuable asset to a company. Oftentimes it is an outstanding employee who performs their job over and beyond the call of duty that influences a customer’s continued support. Employees who deal with customers on a daily basis, such as a salesperson who makes it a point to become familiar with his customer’s needs, or a receptionist who shows kindness and a willingness to assist a customer’s request over the phone are often a company’s lifeline. In addition to the products or service a company offers, the employees who sell the products and offer outstanding service is what encourages a customer’s recommendation to others, and word of mouth is one of the best advertising tools a company has. This is why it is important to make the right choices when hiring employees.

When searching for a candidate to fill a position, it is important when posting the requirements to be as specific as possible. For example, when looking for someone with a degree, make sure the posting is clear that anyone who does not meet the criteria need apply. When leaving out details and expecting people to read between the lines, it leaves the avenue for unqualified applicants wide open, and may result in being bombarded with many who do not measure up, simply because the posting was not clear, therefore wasting both person‘s time.

When a person is interested in a job, they will often submit a resume. These people are in essence saying they believe they meet all of the requirements and qualify for the position. When trying to find the right person for the job, weeding through the many applicants can be tedious and time consuming. Sometimes companies will go through temporary agencies to hire someone to fill in until the hiring process is complete, or to fill in while someone is out. This is a way to save on the cost of health care, with not having to provide temporary help with coverage. There have been many employees hired within a company who started out as a temporary worker, but in the end proved to be a great employee and was therefore hired by the company.

Going through the hiring process can be difficult, time consuming and stressful. However, it is worth all the time it takes in trying to make the best decision possible, for without happy, loyal and dedicated employees, a business would be just a business instead of a successful one.
