Introduction
According to Lao Tzu, human life is the practice of laws of naturalism or the Way, as opposed to rules that culture detects. In other words, Lao Tzu states that language is an artificial belief that ought to be fake bearing in mind that it does not embody the naturalistic aim towards Tao. In addition, he suggests that Tao Te Ching concentrates more on philosophy than religion given that Tao reveals the essence of nature, and has little to do with God and rituals. One of his theoretical explanations in regards to Tao is the concept of Yin and Yang. He uses Yin as females to mean passive and patient whereas, Yang as males to mean action and stubbornness. Both are opposites of one another, as well as, interdependent (Kuo 2004, 31). Lao Tzu considers females as the mothers of all things. Moreover, he proposes that males are characterized as superior and dominant and as a result, society does not value female teachings in regards to humanism (Kuo, 2004, p.35). With this in mind, Tao Te Ching gives rise to the virtue of female principles. This view on Tao teaches the principles of philosophy; in addition, it regulates the natural balance in the universe (Le Guin 2009, 126). The purpose of this essay is to justify the reasoning of feminist philosophy of science based on the view that Tao extols the practices of feminine superiority in preference to the masculine.

The passages provide significant indication that feminism is ultimately an essential, key component of the Way. He also indicates that feminine are the supreme, creation of Tao. Even though, Yang is necessary in the involvement of nature and balance; it does not hold the creation of nature, and balance. Also, Tao focuses on the idea that a weakness represents a strong force. In other words, water, even though weak, is ultimately strong considering that it can triumph over rocks. This symbolic explanation advocates an understanding to the representation of female force. As a result, Tao practices on the principles of feminine enlightenment of philosophy.
Freedom for a Chinese woman was about being independent and to be considered equally important as a man in the Chinese society. The women in traditional China were seen as child-bearers and that was basically considered their main role in their marriages. The women must give birth to a male in order for the family name and traditions can be carried on. If the child was a female, then she’d be of no use to the family and would be married off to another family. It was very difficult for the women since they weren’t able to live life their way due to the old Chinese traditions that were established long ago.

Chang Yu-I understood woman's liberation as the tool for changing the Chinese culture. It was about a woman becoming her own person rather than the property of a man whom she must cherish under every circumstance. Yu-I believed that a woman's liberation was in finding her own independence and strength in Chinese society.
In Pearl S. Buck’s novel, The Good Earth, a humble Chinese farmer, Wang Lung, starts out as a poor man; nevertheless, he overcomes many struggles in order to become a rich and prosperous man. Although, Wang Lung is the main character of the novel there is an equal importance in the women presented. The novel focuses on the major roles of women in China. In the traditional Chinese society, women were oppressed and disrespected. The roles of women were arranged on the home, where they were expected to serve their families. Each female character shows a distinctive perspective of the common women in China. The author not only illustrations the different roles of women, she also displays the struggles women had to overcome in order deal with the injustice during this time. The importance of these female characters is fundamental to the theme of the novel.
Taoism is an ancient Chinese religion, a religion of peace focused on universal balance. The religion itself, though generally surviving today, was almost entirely wiped out in ancient times. Taoism’s primary symbol is still visible on the global market in modern times, though it tends to carry somewhat different meanings then it necessarily did previously. An incredibly life-structure oriented religion, it has permeated through society and is more easily understood through analysis of Taoism’s historical origins and leaders, its types and beliefs, ethics, and the modern influences of Taoism on society.

ABSTRACT: I explore the nature of scientific explanation in a culture centering on the doctrine of yin and yang combined with that of five phrases, wu-hsing (YYFP). I note how YYFP functions as an alternative to the causal way of thinking, as well as the meaning of scientific explanation in a culture. I also consider whether a scientific concept becomes metaphorical when it is superseded by an alternative organizing concept.

The role of the female in this story reveals a sense of inferiority towards women. These questions that the story raises show how women were viewed as inferior and weak in the eyes of the Chinese culture.
Feminist Theory is an aspect of considering feminism as having been based on socio-phenomenon issues rather than biological or scientific. It appreciates gender inequality, analyzes the societal roles played by feminists in a bid to promote the interests, issues and rights of women in the society. It is also based on the assumption that women play subsidiary roles in the society. The whole idea of feminism has however experienced hurdles in the form of stereotyping by the wider society. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a Nigerian author who has received numerous awards and distinctions. Her main argument is that everyone should be a feminist not because of our gender, but because it is what is right. Adichie has been featured in Beyonce’s song, “Flawless”, spreading awareness to the idea of feminism. “We Should All Be Feminists” is a book about her experiences in Nigeria, where men are more powerful than women. The intended audience of the passage is each and every person residing in heavily patriarchal societies. Hesr thesis is “we should all be feminists”.
When one comes into contact with a Chinese painting, the style is almost instantly recognizable. The attention to detail, craftsmanship, and vast depictions of elaborate landscapes appear to pay homage to mother earth in an attempt to reach a state of eternal balance with nature and life. Before this equilibrium could be achieved, one must attain internal discipline. This was required before one began mastering their brushwork in Chinese culture. In Mai Mai Sze’s “The Way of Chinese Painting,” 1959, New York: Vintage Books, Random House, Sze discusses the philosophy known as Daoism/Tao, or “the way.” Before one became a skilled painter, one trained in the personal disciplines of poetry, art, calligraphy, and internal reflection/achievement. Only after reaching this internal state of tranquility between brushstrokes and idea (ie. symbolism) could one begin the next journey to achieve a state of overall harmony/balance between life and nature. Throughout the centuries the concept of Tao remained relatively constant, though political judgment such as Confucius brought forth the idea of philosophy as a separate entity between religious ideals. This was in contrast with the traditional principle, which consisted of religion as the focal point of life. The idea of balance between nature and man is abstract, encompassing thoughts of a heaven and earth interweaved through mathematics. In Amy Tan 's Two Kinds, Jing-mei and her mother show how through generations a relationship of understanding can be lost when traditions, dreams, and pride do not take into account individuality. By applying the concepts of Virginia Woolf, Elaine Showalter, and the three stages of feminism, one can analyze the discourse Tan uses in the story and its connection to basic feminist principles.
It has been said that not everything worth reading is a philosophical argument., and I agree. A glance through the shelves of bookstores, news stands, and libraries will incline one away from the idea that all valuable reading is philosophy. Thoughts back upon experiences that have touched one’s life undoubtedly will include an important novel or story and confirm the original statement. It is also fair to say that people approach literature and philosophy with different expectations. It seems fair to expect one’s philosophical reading to impart knowledge, while not necessarily demanding this of poetry or a short story. Likewise, there are different settings, goals, and different relations that exist between reader and writer, and reader and recommender. Some reading may be for enjoyment, escapism, or metaphor while other is for personal knowledge acquisition and/or a class assignment. While this is not to say that I haven’t enjoyed much of the reading required of me in the pursuit of my degree, I approached it all with an expectation that it should fit nicely within my preconceived notion of ‘Philosophy’. In this class I was presented with reading that broke out of that mold. I want to step back a little and work my way back into the literature from some distance. This is, I hope, a fair way of coming to an understanding of the field of feminist thinking.
