First wave of feminism occurred in the late 19th century and continued to the beginning of the early 20th century, it would bring new opportunities for women and focus on woman suffrage (Class notes session 5). During this era, the right to vote was the major issue in feminism, women wanted to be involved in politics, from which they got the right to vote. This era is important since this is when women started to be open about their problems and stood up for their rights. They gave women the opportunity to stand up for themselves and ultimately encouraged the next two eras. The second era was probably the most important. I would also have to argue against the equal pay issue, because I haven’t directly seen unequal pay in the workforce, even as it was mentioned in class during the video. The video underlined why the statistics may not be entirely correct, such as why they have less pay, because most women have a time where they aren’t able to work for example when they leave for maternity leave. Funny thing that maternity leave was a woman right that they fought for during the second and third wave and now they question why there is still a minor gap between women and men. Throughout this wave they also fought/fight for equal education, which I also have trouble understanding because I again have not personally experienced this. To my knowledge I have had the same opportunities in education as my male cousins and childhood friends which by the way from my male predominant family I am the first to attend a university. Because of certain experiences or rather not many experiences with feminism other than watching my mother be an independent woman, I have challenges to fully understand local feminism.
