"I speak for education of every child, in every corner of the world," Malala Yousafzai was born in Swat valley of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan in July 1997. (“Malala Yousafzai Biography” 1) She is now 17 years old. Malala was shot in the head for campaigning for girl’s educational rights in Pakistan. After she got shot, her dream expanded to every child to have a right go to school. How does Malala stand for children’s rights? She created funds, continued to go to school, and raised awareness.
Pakistan is located in southern Asia on the Indian subcontinent. The Indus River winds along the entire length of Pakistan. Malala was born in Swat Valley. The official religion of Pakistan is Islam, and the language Urdu. In 1947, Pakistan gained its independence from Great Britain. It borders Iran, Afghanistan and India in Southeast Asia.
Malala was shot in the forehead coming back from school. The Taliban had shot her- a group of terrorists in Pakistan. Due to their presence, no one is allowed to have to right of education-especially girls. “Around the world, there are 57 million children out of school. In Pakistan alone, 69 percent of Pakistan's male population can read and write while only 40 percent of women are literate. Pakistan has the world’s second highest number of out of school children, reaching 5.1 million in 2010- this is equalivent to 1 in 12 of all the out of school population of the world. After Malala delivered her speech at the UN, United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon decided that the UN is committed to providing education to all children through its Global Education Initiation. Malala does not plan or want to back down and has said she will not stop fighting until every child has the opportunity to have an educational right.
Malala Yousafzai stands for children’s rights. Her goal is for all children to go to school and have an opportunity. Malala Yousafzai has stood up for children’s rights by creating funds, continuing to go to school, and raising awareness. And just as she says, “Let us pick up our books and our pens. They are our most powerful weapons. One child, one teacher, one book, and one pen can change the world. Education is the only solution. Education first.”
