The career that I want to pursue is to be a cardiologist. A cardiologist is a doctor that specializes in all things heart including the blood vessels. This means that if a patient went to visit their primary physician and the physician detected a problem with the patient’s heart. The physician will then give a referral to the patient so that the patient can go to a cardiologist. The cardiologist will then will review the patient history and perform many tests such as a physical exam, ECG (electro cardiogram), blood test and an X-ray. Base on the results and the symptoms the patient is having the cardiologist can then diagnose and then treat the patient whether it’s through medicine or changing their lifestyle. I also try to speak to as much cardiologist that I can talk to ask them for any advice in regards to what step to take. The most important step that I’ve taken was trying to build a strong foundation in math and science. The reason why I try to make these two field my strongest is because they are the used in every classes that I will have to take for my major. They will also be used every day as a cardiologist because I would have to be able to prescribe medication to my patients and also know their side effects. In those subject I’ve also taken the harder classes in them such as AP biology and AP statistic. These classes challenged me to work harder than the average student and to have a better balancing system when it comes to juggling my classes and other activities. Not only did I focus on juggling all my classes, I got a job because in college I’ll be working and I feel like I if I start to practice now it will also help me. The job that I got was working in a clinic, this is helping me prepare for my career because I eventually want to open my own private practice and being in a clinic environment I will get the experiences
Every night, as I sat on the table with my younger brothers assisting them with their homework, I hear a familiar sound at the door. As she walks her heels click, and I can hear her searching her bag for her keys, the next thing I know the keys are in the lock and as it turns me and my younger brothers’ jump. We run to the door and indeed we scream in unison “Mommy’s home”, one by one she gives us a hug and a kiss. My mother asks us how our day was, and if we finished our homework, she then looks to me and said “did you cook and assist your younger ones with their homework”; I replied “yes mom”. As I warm the food, I take my mother’s purse, jacket, and shoes put them away and prepare the table for her to eat dinner. As I glance at the clock, with bright red lights glaring at me I notice the time, it is 7:30 p.m. As a young child I never questioned my mom, about her daily program but it was understood to me that my mother worked very hard to raise three children on her own. My mother migrated from Nigeria at the age of 18, with a scholarship to study at the New York City College of Technology; she received her Bachelor’s of Science Degree. She created a path way of success for her younger siblings; the first to go to college, the first to come to America with a scholarship offer. My mother works at the Nigerian Embassy, she also has a certificate in Cisco Systems, she has her license in nursing and is a licensed realtor, there were no bearings on where my mother education stopped, soon after her siblings from Nigeria followed in pursuit of furthering their education and continuing the path of success. Her dedication and pride enlightened me throughout high school. Every morning, I woke up at 5am, I then woke my younger brothe...
After review of my skills, interests, and experiences, I decided to pursue the medical career field as my first career choice, more specifically as a physician assistant. I will exceed in this position in the interest of that I like to help people and I solve problems well. Also, I communicate well with others and I have a great amount of patience. There are various careers that fit my skills and interests, but this one grabs my attention. My dream job is to be a doctor, but this occupation allows one to save money by lessening the years of school required. Also, the pay isn’t too shabby either. I will be successful in this position due to my skills, characteristics, and values, like honesty and helping others. Up to this point, I have job shadowed at a medical billing company and I like the idea of diagnosing and helping people, but a desk job is not ideal. Also, I took a medical terminology as a class and I discovered that I like how the body works and what it does. These factors have all influenced my career goal.
Cardiac sonographers also known as echocardiographers are medical professionals who use a type of imaging called ultrasound that uses high frequency sound waves to create images of the heart, look at the functioning of the hearts chambers, vessels, walls, blood flow, and valve function( “Cardiac Sonography: Job,” 2013). Cardiac sonographers work with ultrasound equipment and a transducer probe to generate sound waves into images. They use sonography to produce visual images that can assist in the treatment or diagnosis of certain heart and blood vessel conditions. They must be skilled in recognizing and pointing out any abnormalities. Therefore, they must be familiar with basic cardiac conditions. However, cardiac sonographers do not diagnose the patients themselves, but they do work alongside many cardiologists and physicians who determines the issue if one is present ( “Cardiac Sonography: Job,” 2013). Cardiac sonographers mainly perform the technical aspects of the examinations, assess the findings, and report them to the cardiologist for further review. Preforming echocardiograms is not the only job a sonographer has, they provide a big portion of patient care throughout their day by reviewing patients medical records, prepping them for the echo, and instructing them during the
I haven’t always wanted to be a cardiac sonographer. The desire to be in this career just started to spark an interest in me a couple years back. You see, since I was a little girl I had always dreamt of becoming an architect or an interior designer. At first, the design aspect of that occupation interested me greatly. My dream started to fall short when I realized that a job like this would require me to make a move to a bigger city and that is something that I do not wish to pursue. This meant it was time to find another path to go down and reconfigure my future.
I shadowed a cardiologist named Arnulfo Granado. He uses echocardiograms to get an imaging of the heart. He receive patients with arrhythmia, atrophibulation, risk of heart attack, and any other heart threatening conditions. According to Mr. Granado, his job is fairly easy—he mostly have to know how to use TTE and TEE echocardiograms to take a good pictures of the patients’ hearts and measure the size of the valve, right atrium, etc. His work was very interesting to hear since looking at all kinds of heart with different conditions is very amusing to observe.
My lifetime goal is helping others and I plan to use my career to fulfill it. The classes I’m taking right now and the ones I’m planning to take senior year are classes I believe will influence my decision in my college major/career as well as counting toward my GPA. This will help me get into schools who have medical programs that I’m considering. Also, taking AP classes can help me save money since I can earn college credit. I’m taking all AP classes, and the electives I’m taking have been classes that have helped me consider being in the medical field. I’ve found that over the years, science and math are what I’m doing better in versus history and english. I believe by being in the medical field, I can help others in the best way I can.

My affinity for biology comes from my childhood days that I spent watching dissection of rats and looking at the cellular structure under microscope. My mother, being a professor of biology regularly used to take me with her to a Biology lab and that is where my journey towards medical career began. Early on in my life, my family went through a long agony of my father's illness and death. This became a solitary stimulus for me to take up this profession and a driving force to strive for excellence. Going through that turmoil of recurrent hospital visits gave me a firsthand experience of an anguishing family.
I always want a career in the medical field but I never know in which field I should concentrate, after visiting the MSF website I was able to narrow it down. The website was full of information about the organization and I was able to choose a career off the website. My main goal is to work with them so I can make a different in my community or country but also individual around the world that needs help. It’s been more than five years since I choose that career. although I use to think about changing it now I more than focus to achieve my goal. There are many aspects of the profession that interest me such as I can assist in surgery, develop treatment, treat illnesses and conduct physical exam. The entire thing that a normal physician can do, there is no limit in what I can do as a physician. My only limitation is the one I set for
I have always looked forward to the day I would begin a residency program in Internal Medicine. Prior to my admission to Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nigeria, I was motivated to pursue this path. My early childhood experiences and academic background including a Public Health degree in progress have all contributed to shape and maintain my quest for a career in Internal Medicine. I am confident that I am ready to embark on this journey.
My future career goal is to become an anesthesiologist. An anesthesiologist administers an anesthetic to patients before going into surgery. They also have to keep monitor of vital life signs and make sure everything in the body is functioning properly while under the anesthetic. I think being an anesthesiologist is something I’d enjoy being because I like being in control. I like making sure people are okay and that is specifically what anesthesiologists do; they make sure the patient can’t feel any pain and is comfortable during surgery.
Although I have great goals to help people, my grand wish cannot be granted without a great amount of effort on my part. I decided to take part in activities that would help me reach my goals and to ready myself for that field of work. My extracurricular activities and my electives showed proof of my interest in the medical field over time. I made an extra effort to look for activities and classes that could help me on the way to becoming a doctor. My first step was
In order to determine whether or not clinical medicine was the right career for me, I started shadowing Dr. Richard Turner in the ER. Through my experiences with him, I learned that medicine is a problem solving process. As I watched, he would take a patient's history and try to piece together the correct diagnosis by deciding which scenarios were more likely than others. I was attracted by the dynamic nature of each patient's diagnosis and the necessity for an open mind. My hobby of flying has taught me to look at everything in life with a new perspective and to assess the situation from as many angles as possible. Watching Dr. Turner has confirmed my perception of a medical career and the nature of the work involved. Since I love puzzles and problems, the problem solving aspect also increased my desire to become a physician.
