Evolution of Abrahamic Religions

“Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.” Genesis 17:5. This is a direct excerpt from the king james Bible where God is renaming Abram to Abraham. Abraham became the father of many nations and to day three of the most popular religions that span many people groups and ethnicities can trace the roots of their beliefs back to Abraham. Three main religions sprouted from Abrahamic traditions, this paper will discuss the origins and the evolution of these three and will also analyse the reasons these three religions split.

The origins of all abrahamic religions trace their roots back to abraham. Abraham is believed to have lived around 2000 BCE as written in Genesis, the first book of the bible and the torah. Abraham is believed to have been commanded by God to leave his fathers house and to inherit the land of canaan. This was God’s covenant with Abraham: “Get out of your country, from your family and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." Genesis 12:1-3

All Three Religions agree about the origins of abraham, but Islam differs early on when ishmael son of Abraham is sent into the arabian desert and settles near mecca. Abraham has a son Isaac has a son jacob, whose descendants became the 12 tribes of israel forming basis of judaism. Christianity finally breaks off of judaism when Jesus is crucified and believed to have come back to life and ascended into heaven. ...

...se religions began in a time when informations passed slowly over geographic regions and as a result remained very similar to the original state, but with the addition of more people with different views and different ideas on the direction they want the religions to take there are splits in denomination and additions and subtractions to the belief system as a whole.

From The Origins of the Abrahamic religion there have been divisions like christianity and islam. All three of these religions trace their heritage back to Abraham. Throughout the years each one has seen evolution and division creating a large following throughout the world. Evolution of these religions come from globalization and the spread of ideas to new people with varying views of the world. This more connected world has caused the evolution and division of these Abrahamic Religions.
