I once read a quote online from the late Nelson Mandela, where he stated It is better to lead from behind and to put others in front, especially when you celebrate victory when nice things occur. You take the front line when there is danger. Then people will appreciate your leadership. With such a powerful meaning leadership is very important in every aspect or business. With there being many professions and careers a leader is well needed to guide its employees. As with many leaders there are political leaders such as Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, then of course there is William Bratton the commissioner of The New York State Police Department. You can either be a good leader or bad leader. Leadership takes up many qualities within a person. These qualities may include but not limited to great communicator, professionalism, hard working, optimistic, caring, intelligent, enthusiastic, respectful, organized, consistent, delegator and many more. Webster Dictionary notes that leadership is the action of leading a group of people or an organization.
In 1939, Psychologist Kurt Lewin and his colleagues conducted leadership decision experiments where they would identify which leadership style was within the decision making scope. In policing as well as life there are three types of leaders. There is the democratic leader, authoritarian leader and last but not least there is the laissez-faire leader. I will briefly explain all three types of leaderships and how different they are but have the same ending result.
The democratic leader makes the final decision but includes their team member in the decision making process. This allows the team members to feel appreciated and rewarded at the same time. This creates a creativity atmosph...

... opinion, in order for you to become a good leader you have to value the input of others as well showing you care. Employees want to be able to reach out to their managers not only on a professional level but also a friendship level. As with the police department, these leaders such as lieutenant’s, sergeant’s, chiefs and the hierarchy have to accommodate for their employees in many ways. Not everyone's opinion can be valued or taken into consideration. For instance, the in-house sergeant and street sergeant are two different types of leaders but accomplish mainly the same goal. There may be issues that an in house sergeant can address better then the street sergeant. Every leader has its purpose and goals.
