On February 13, Mr. Ambrosio’s Honors Shapers class will depart for Italy. This will be the first time in years that Blind Brook students have gone abroad for a school trip. The students are very excited to explore the many sights of Italy. Senior Soapie Dellorusso said, “I know Italy is a very cool place and I am excited to go there.” Senior Andrea Bartolotta agrees, saying, “It’s going to be really exciting. I can’t wait to explore Italian culture.”
This trip will be an exciting new experience for the students in Shapers, the majority of whom have never been to Italy before. Besides being a new experience, this trip will also have a lot of educational value as it pertains to Honors Shapers. Jon Ambrosio, the teacher of Honors shapers, said, “Shapers is an interdisciplinary class that focuses on humanity, creation, classical Greek culture, and Roman literature.” When needed, teachers Paige Buonocore and Kaitlin Carey contribute to the class by offering their expertise on art and music, respectively. Life in Italy is much different than life in the United States. Italians live at a much slower pace, than American’s and they have a desire to enjoy life instead of rushing through it as many American lifestyles exhibit (Zimmermann, K. (2015). The extended family is very important in Italy, whereas in the United States, the focus tends to be on the nuclear family, which includes mom, dad, and children (Zimmermann, 2015). The differences in Italian culture and American culture are vast and varied, but with a few comparable components to demonstrate similarities.
When presenting ‘A Place in Tuscany’ the perspective changes to that of a young man. Compared to the house in Brisbane, more use is made of the conversation and there is a more sophisticated and advanced vocabulary and knowledge of the area. This gives the reader a more adult insight into the area.
What idea does the author develop regarding how an important event can change your perspective? In the short story, “The First Day” by Edward P. Jones is about a little girl view on the people during her first day. Her mother prepare her gave her an unusually breakfast and clothes for her new school Seaton Elementary all the way down New Jersey Avenue. At the school Walker-Jones, a key event happens to her. She learns of an essential fact of her mother pervious past of her life and on how she acts. The daughter sees that the mother does not seem to like the teacher of her daughter new classroom. A significant event can changes how you use to see people from your old understanding into another completely different understanding of how you view them before.
Between study group, debate, and chess tournaments there wasn’t much of a social scene around Winchester University in Omaha, Nebraska. The school year at this college was year round, but the students were given a 30 day summer vacation in July. The majority of the students went back home to visit their families during this time. But as juniors at the University Charles, Fredrick, and Stanley, all childhood buddies, decided it was time for a change and that they needed a little more spice in their life. Realizing that they were almost twenty-one and had never breached their comfort zone, they knew a road trip was in store.
A rediscover of their history and recognition of early Greek philosophers changed the way that the influential families and Princes, in Italy, considered themselves. Their way of thinking of the Devine and need to promote one’s own aspirations through sponsorship of the arts, as well as, civic duty became not only fashionable but important to progress in the city states. Although Donatello’s David and Botticelli’s Primavera are master pieces in their own right, their influence on future generations of artists cannot be ignored. The spark that ignited the fire which we call the Renaissance was a transformation of societies thinking and values to a Humanistic approach to one duties to society and the church. The subject of The School of Athens is humanistic in and of itself. Last but not least, the Italian-American’s contributed greatly to America’s past and left quite an imprint on our ‘melting pot’ culture. The Italian-Americans came to America following a dream; whether it be temporarily ‘escaping’ South Italy or a lifelong aspirations toward music. There perseverance and bravery left an impact stronger than words can express which assisted our future successes. Slowly yet steadily, Italians rose up the social ladder, opening up like a blossoming flower to their fellow Americans. Establishing their roots, then blossoming into a beautiful flower, revealing all beyond everyone’s expectations. Today, Italians have surpassed all the other ethnic groups in average job income and job prestigious, a true example of hard work paying off. So, as has been seen, the system of patronage was extremely important in Renaissance Italy. It brought with it mixed blessings for artists. On the one hand, it gave them the income to support themselves and continue to produce works. On the other hand, though, it could be very constrictive on what the artist could produce, and could even sometimes decide the quality of a work.
I’ve always appreciated art but after taking this class I see it so differently & carry much more knowledge. I hope to revisit Italy some day so I can look at its art & architecture in a new way than I had previously. I guarantee it would be a whole different experience than

Right next to food, family is the most important thing in Italian culture. My mother was born and raised in Naples, Italy and lived with her mother and three siblings after her father passed away when she was only six years old. My mother and my grandmother had a very close bond, the same bond my mother and I share now. My grandmother was a very hands on type of mom my mother tells me. Like most mothers, her children were her pride and joy. My mother’s most vivid memories of her childhood involve my grandmother teaching her how to make tiramisu and lasagna.
