Area of Learning: Teaching and Learning

Introduction

Currently I am teaching in a post compulsory education and training institution, where few years ago I was a teacher training student, studying for the stage one teaching certificate (See Appendix 2 – Confirmation of Stage 1 7407 C&G Completion). During the training I managed to gain a part time teaching opportunity and later was employed in my current institution (CNWL). As a member of staff I had the opportunity of practising what I had been taught on the teacher training course and while on that course I was able to theoretically relate my practical classroom experience of Teaching and Learning to a real-life context.

In 2010 I enrolled into a postgraduate qualification in education and in 2011 I was awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), after following an approved programme in post-compulsory education and training. (See Appendix 2 - PGCE Certificate).

Bearing this in mind and knowing that it is important for me to maintain high professional standards I have to come up with some improvement strategies to deliver better teaching and learning methods and resources, especially as regards planning ahead.

I have learnt how to plan ahead for all my lessons through observing other members of staff and meetings with advanced practitioners, and in par...

I have developed the knowledge and skills required to evaluate a lesson and give constructive feedback. This is an important aspect of teaching and learning; the evaluated session must be particularly clear, giving an indication of the evidence required to justify the identified areas for development. This not only makes reviewing a session supportive, but it also offers the opportunity for both mentor and trainee to improve their skills continuously, which is an indication of good practice within teaching and learning.
