XFL – What the Hell? Vince McMahon is at it again. Vince McMahon, the head of the World Wrestling Federation, is trying to work his marketing wizardry by establishing a new professional football league, the XFL. This extreme football league with all-access media coverage, hard-hitting action, and fast-paced wide-open offense is supposed to be the next great entertainment frenzy. I, for one, think this league will be flop after a season or two for many reasons such as lack of fan interest, poor quality players, and lack of real football. Vince McMahon’s WWF is a multi-million dollar corporation and has been wildly successful in capturing the sports entertainment market. “Monday Night Raw,” the weekly soap opera on TNN, is one of the three most watched cable shows each week. In addition, the WWF has weekly wrestling shows on UPN and MTV. Personally, I am caught up in the phenomenon. I set aside my Monday evenings to watch Monday Night Football and professional wrestling. I enjoy attempting to figure out the storylines before they unfold and attempt to guess the action that may happen in the next segment. Surprisingly, many Americans share my point of view and enjoy this sort of entertainment. The WWF’s core market personality is an American male, between the ages of 12-35, very similar to professional football. The WWF provides high flying action, crushing hits, and exciting finishes; not much different than the NFL. Vince McMahon is attempting to extend the short NFL season and capture America’s passion for football while marketing more of his merchandise - not the best business idea in my view. The XFL is to begin play the week after the Super Bowl, Saturday, February 3, 2001. The league will be comprise... ... middle of paper ... ...e McMahon will spend millions of dollars in a campaign to draw fan interest and support and very little return on investment will occur. Yes, the first season may be successful with the “all-access” view of football and little outside sporting competition. However, America will soon recognize that the XFL games have poor quality talent and that it is just Vince McMahon and Dick Ebersol trying to make a few extra bucks at the expense of the American public. I believe that this league will fold after its second season. As an accountant and an economist, I wish Vince and Dick the best of luck in marketing this gem. I hope they are able to make the XFL profitable and possibly change the face of competitive sports with the flare the WWF provides. However, they will have to do so without one avid football and professional wrestling fan supporting their endeavor, ME!
The longer that football was on television, the more intense the publicity for the NFL became. The Monday Night Football Logo showed to helmets hitting together forcefully, the NFL marketed the violence and captured the tension between violence and the art of football.
Football is something as American as apple pie. It is thought of as gritty, physical, and all around fun just as most Americans like to be thought of. For decades the NFL has dominated the world of football. However, Vince McMahon, the founder of the WWF, has introduced a new and controversial professional football league called the XFL. Much of the controversy is about whether the XFL is a force to be reckoned with or just another of McMahon’s clever marketing ploys. Although the XFL’s survival has been questioned by many, it promises to be a league full of the smash-mouth, trash-talking, fan-oriented football every fan deserves.
Playing football comes with several risks factors that players’ acknowledge prior to playing the game starting a young age. Regardless, these players still chose to play the game, which they end up loving and cherishing despite all the risks accompanied with it. Football is one of the toughest sports in the world; it takes a certain amount of strength, speed, and aggressiveness to play 48 minutes of hard-nosed football. However, the National Football League (NFL) is in the midst of a controversial issue. Is the NFL getting soft? This has been a debatable issue for several years. While some believe that implementing all these rules in the NFL is progressively turning the game soft, others say that the NFL is not getting soft; it is just trying to make the game safer for its players.
The National Football League has always been evolved in some sort of scandal and Nick Anderson, the cartoonist of Football Emergency, has a very strong opinion of the NFL. His cartoon is easy enough for anyone to understand whether or not they follow the NFL but is much more interesting with a little football knowledge. He tries to argue that the NFL is focusing on useless scandals like deflated footballs instead of the more pressing issues of domestic violence and concussions.
Currently, media coverage is putting pressure on the NFL and not letting them deal with bigger issues. There is a lack of leadership with the NFL and Roger Goodell. Goodell is not taking things the right way. Teams are losing players because of their crimes and instead of dealing with that
The National Football League was formed decades ago by the merger of two national leagues. The Super Bowl is the traditional season-end activity that crowns the national champion. Each team represented starts with one of the original leagues. The number of teams active in the NFL does not remain the same for longr.o. the game of professional football is big business and can be highly profitable. When the NFL announces that it has approved new expansion teams, there is intense competition among team less cities to attract one of the franchises. The game is profitable for team owners and for players, but it also is profitable for the cities in which teams are centered. It contributes to the local economy and enhances the stature of the city in where a team is located.
Now don’t be confused on the word football, since I am not talking about “soccer” at all. Football which is otherwise known as the NFL or the National Football League, is an American based sport that involves thirty-two teams from cities all over the country that compete against each other through strategy and strength in order to reach one goal; to win the Super Bowl.
The NFL is continuing to grow in popularity and size. The NFL is continuing to improve in safety and innovations in the game. In the future the NFL will look to eliminate kickoffs and the extra point kick. It will also look to add a team in Los Angeles and Canada. The NFL has also looked at eliminated its “all-star” game, the Pro Bowl, because of players not performing at 100% for fear of injury. I do not see any sports league topping the NFL in the future, so it looks like the NFL is here to last.
The NFL has implemented a lot of new rule changes that have tremendously helped with player safety. Like head to head contact isn't allowed as much anymore. If players commit the "crime" either they can be fined money, penalized during the game, or suspended if they are reoccurring offenders.the NFL is trying to get away from a lot of the head to head contact and stop being known. Some could say the NFL is almost a circus these players do so much and don’t always get a lot in return the NFL is concerned with the revenue and not always the player safety.
The National Football League (NFL) has been a staple on Sunday’s in America homes for quiet sometime. It provides excitement and generates billion’s of dollars, but what I told you that this league may lose viewers or even not exist in a few years. The NFL is a great brand, but what is potentially going up against may have you scratching your head as a parent to let your child even take a snap early in his football career if not taken care of.
The XFL is trying to attract two groups of people as their main audience, football fans looking to extend the NFL season and young people who might not watch much football right now. They are targeting these viewers with a more fast paced and controvercial style of football. They are going to have microphones on everyone so that they can hear what players are saying to eachother. They are hoping that this will add some excitement to the action on the field. They are going to encourage trash talking, endzone celebrations, and make the cheerleaders more involved in the game through interviews and their constant presence on the television. This is directly aimed at the younger audience and directly plays off the success that the WWF has had at attracting this audience.
In the modern day United States the sport American football has become not only entertainment but also a tradition whether it’s watching the BCS college championship or watching the super bowl with the family. The sport of American football is unique to the United States and has grown and became iconic over the years and has become a part of many Americans lives. American Football was made in 1869 and was modeled after the sport of rugby. They took the basics of rugby and changed it to make it fit better for them. The game has changed over the years but it also affected many Americans as the tradition of Monday Night football has begun. The game has had problems with the United States government as it was said to be too dangerous to play, this lead to an upgrade in the equipment and they tried very hard to make the equipment well ensuring player safety throughout the sport.
Shame punishments should be implemented in the Justice system. Because we waste so many tax dollars for incarcerating small-time offenders, we should use shame to save money and make the system more helpful for those who are in it. Punishing by shame can be effective through many forms such as community service or participating in an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting to overcome drinking problems. Shame makes the punishment more personal to the offender and creates a solution that is the greatest for society. If a graffiti painter had to clean up all of the graffiti in the city, he would become sick of graffiti paintings. Shame is a resolution to the current problem in the justice system.
If you were magically able to take a road trip to Mars for the day, you would stumble upon rocks, walk through valleys, maybe even take a look at the second largest mountain in our solar system; Olympus Mons. However, due to today’s low atmospheric pressure on Mars, there is no water, no life, and the hypothetical road trip wouldn’t work because you would not be able to breathe. The water-less Mars we know today, hasn’t always been just a red planet. Previous studies beginning in the late 70’s and again in the 90’s detected evidence of water once occurring on Mars. However, a new scientific study led by Sharon Wilson of the Smithsonian Institution and the University of Virginia, shows water on Mars may have existed earlier than previously thought.
Its atmosphere used to be thick enough for water, but today it cannot. Over time the atmosphere got thinner and there’s little or no water to be found on this planet. Now this planet’s atmosphere is too thin to support life as we know it. When the atmosphere was thick this planet could have supported life in the ancient past. Mars’s chemical makeup is Carbon dioxide: 95.32 percent Nitrogen: 2.7 percent Argon: 1.6 percent Oxygen: 0.13 percent Carbon monoxide: 0.08 percent Also, minor amounts of: water, nitrogen oxide, neon, hydrogen-deuterium-oxygen, krypton and xenon (space.com). Mars does not have gas
