When a person thinks of a hospital, he or she usually thinks of doctors and nurses working together to heal and save lives. When in reality, it is so much more than that. In order to be able to diagnose and treat patients, the exceptional physicians and other health care workers must go through a sizable process so that they can truly do their best. Here, come in the different departments a hospital needs. Whether it’s the emergency care department, the intensive care unit, or the oncology department, they all play some type of role and work together in helping the patients. One that stands out for me because it helps a lot is the X-Ray CT Department because it is a part of the Diagnostic Imaging Techniques Department. The different mechanisms in the Diagnostic Imaging Techniques such as X-Rays, computed topography (CT) scans, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) help narrow the causes of an injury or illness and ensure that the diagnosis is accurate. The imaging tools allow the doctors to see inside the body of the patient and get a variety of “pictures” of the bones, cartilage, organs, nerves, muscles, and tendons and have become mainstays for diagnosing medical diseases. It is a modern imaging tool that integrates computer technology with X-rays in order to produce a more detailed, cross-sectional image of the body. The scan allows the doctor to see the size, position, and shape of the structures that are deep inside the body. The patient must lie motionless as possible on the table that slides into the center of the CT scanner. The process is absolutely painless as the X-ray tube rotates slowly around the patient while taking many pictures from all directions.
