Writing 101 Reflection

I understand the fundamentals of writing much more now than I did when I began Writing 101. Prior to this course I felt confident in my writing skills and I rarely felt as though there was something I didn’t understand about writing. After taking those course however, I feel much more educated on how to write a well written, organized, and professional paper. I have learned multiple tools to enhance my papers that I wasn’t even aware existed prior to finishing Writing 101.

I initially took to heart the reading and note-taking strategies learned in week one. Throughout the eight weeks of the course I ensured that I managed my reading time and identified why I was reading the material. For example, while reading Writing For Success, I made sure I took notes and retained what I was reading for future assignments. However, while reading scholarly journals I would be looking for specific information that I could use in my paper.

On multiple occasions I felt as though I comprehended and retained information better than I actually had. This is where Comfit came into play and I am very glad it was a part of this course. Comfit was a great way to test my skills in what we had learned that week and it helped me identify what I needed to focus more on. This is the first course I have truly invested myself in because I knew it would have information I will need to know for the rest of my college and professional career. When we learned details of citations I again made sure that I was retaining everything possible about the information. In the past I would have to look up the correct ways to cite every time I wrote a paper. With thanks to this course, I can now confidently write a research paper with in-text citations, hanging citations, and a references page. I also know multiple resources I can use to ensure I am doing it
