All families have there difficulties, some more than others, and some different, but in my case I think my family is pretty ordinary; or is it. The movie “Parenthood” is a great example of how four different families, all related, can be completely different. The movie can perfectly describe a lot of ordinary families anywhere in the world, I did not feel that my family related to any of the families in the movie; I felt that there was a message that related to my family. One message in the movie that stood out to me was: no matter the rough patch the families go through, they always come back together. My dad has six other siblings and most of them are spread out across the Midwest. I got used to seeing only one third of my family at any of my holiday dinners at my grandparents’ house. Part of the reason was because of the drive and how long it took to get here, but the other part was that we had some tension in the family between a couple brothers. Though they both argued for stupid reasons, after my grandpa was diagnosed with stomach and throat cancer, they all started to make the drive home. I then began seeing cousins I hadn’t seen in five years and started to bond with them more. I wish I could say the rest came home to bond with the family, but really, it was to see my grandpa before he passed. Soon after he passed, you felt a lot of the family tension loosen. I noticed right away that all four families were completely different, but were a family in that sense. The same happens in my family. Like I said before, my dad has six brothers and sisters, each have there own families, but we are all from different places and grow up in different ways, just like in the movie. I have cousins living in Minnesota, Kansas, Indiana, and Illinos; when everyone lives so far apart; it is hard to get together. When we get together, we talk about how each person is so much different then ourselves, much like how Steve Martin talks about Gary and other characters in the mvie. Based on where everyone grew up, we all have different personalities, styles, and unique factors, but we still come together and act similarly. I believe it is based on the people that raise us. My grandpa and grandma raised seven kids and there kids are going to be raised similarly to how my grandpa and grandma raised them; therefore, we are all brought up in some similar form. Every person has different opinions, thoughts, and feelings, so we could never be the same; none of us could, but we have some of the same traits and feelings toward each other, which make us, come together as
