The Aztecs were a very complex and organized group of people. Religion was put first and was the deciding factor in every aspect of their society, may it be economic security, social mobility, education, or war. The Aztecs were truly devoted to their culture. They began conquering neighboring groups in central Mexico since they had superior religion. War eventually was seen as an obligation to them. The two basic reasons for their wars are: meet the gods’ needs of sacrifice, and to obtain warriors for the next phase of imperial expansion. They triumphed over many in a short period of time. The Mexica people were polytheistic and even worshiped deities. The main issue that they faced was the problem between order and disorder. They did not like disorder, but they believed it could not be avoided; that is why they held many different cleansing rituals to purify themselves.

As a part of their religion, they truly believed in the process of sacrificing. This was seen as sacred and essential. They believed that sacrifice led to their peoples’ prosperity and preservation. At the beginning of their society, they did not have any social distinctions. Everyone was poor so no man was socially ahead of another. During the sixteenth century, the Aztec’s society started to undergo change. Their class rankings were: noble class, warrior class, working class (the maceualtin people), the serfs (tlalmaitl people), and the slaves. At six, boys were sent to train for war, and by eighteen they fought in their first campaign. Women played important roles in the domestic part only. Marriage was up to the man and the woman.
