When an orthodontist first tells you that you need braces to correct some dental issues, you may wonder what is in store for you. Extracting one or two teeth may be necessary to make room for your teeth to move to the right position. The orthodontist will then need to make a plaster cast of your teeth, both upper and lower jaws. When this preparation is finished, it will be time to put on your braces.

For traditional metal braces and ceramic braces, it may take one to two hours to put them on, depending on the type of braces you are getting. The orthodontist will first clean and dry your teeth.
