Think about how your life was when you were ten. For most people, the only worries were whether you finished your homework and if you’ve been recently updated for new games. Unfortunately, in Sierra Leone, kids at the age of ten were worried about if that day was the only day they’d be able to breathe. The cause of one of this devastating outcome is Sierra Leone’s Civil War. This war was a long bloody fight that took many lives and hopes of children and families.

While this oppression in the Congo never seems to cease, the natives are consistently able to overcome the obstacles, and the tyrants, and thus prove to be civilized in their own regard and as capable of development as the white nations. As Orleanna says herself: “Call it oppression, complicity, stupefaction, call it what you’d like…Africa swallowed the conqueror’s music and sang a new song of her own” (Kingsolver 385). Kingsolver illustrates that though individuals may always seek to control and alter the region, the inhabitants and victims of the tyranny and oppression live on and continue past it, making the state of the area almost as perpetual as the desire to control it.
During the 1900’s two deadly wars were raging on, the civil war in Sierra Leone and the genocide in Rwanda. The civil war in Sierra Leone began in March 1991, while the genocide began in 1994. Combined these two wars killed upward of 1,050,000 people, and affected the lives of all the people that lived there. The conflicts in Sierra Leone and Rwanda occurred for different major reasons, but many little aspects were similar. Politics and Ethnicity were the two main conflicts, but despite the different moments rebellions and the murder of innocent people occurred in both places.

While government works such as ADMARC and ESCOM have potential to be beneficial to William’s community, in practice, the government does not make them accessible enough to William’s people; thus, they do not serve much use. When studying Angola’s inflation rates and economy structure it is important to understand the inherent challenges faced. Unlike the US, Angola has a poorly developed infrastructure that makes moving goods and equipment difficult and costly. Also Angola suffers from an inefficient trading system with her African neighbors. Each side is required to first exchange their currencies into a third party foreign currency, like the US dollar, then they can conduct business. This makes transactions complex, time consuming, and expensive. Examples like this form the basis on why Angola’s inflation rates are relatively high. Due in part to its tumultuous past, sub-Saharan Africa is a region of the world that is stricken with war, famine, and poverty. Many people in richer parts of the world, including North America and Europe, view helping the people who inhabit this part of the world as their duty and obligation. Both non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and governmental organizations such as the United Nations (UN) alike send humanitarian aid to sub-Saharan Africa. While this aid helps countless individuals and their families, humanitarian aid in sub-Saharan Africa fuels further conflict and enables violent groups, undermining the goals of the aid itself.
Many countries around the world experience great poverty, maybe because the country has little amounts of natural resources or it has never gotten out of a slump that dragged down the economy. The people of the country are affected greatly by this, almost directly, if there are no resources available, people can’t work to refine the resources, make or use them. So instead of using the resources available, the country buys the materials needed. This puts the country in debt, along with the people. In order to get out of debt, taxes are raised and people slowly lose their jobs and their money. An example of this is that during this time people were tired they had just gone through a world war and are going through a great depression so people at this time are tired, angry, and just really want a government that will work. This is backed up by Document 7 which says “People are already worn down by the struggle of daily life….more ready to submit”. Document 7 is showing that these people are tired and ready to quit, they just want something to work and help them. Also like the picture “Toads of Property” shows there was the high up people and the lows. You can see the high up people who are just fine and betting money playing games, where as the poor people are standing around all sad and look as if they are defeated. If people in your country are feeling defeated and don’t have faith in what is going on the government isn’t going to last long. Like shown, people overall weren’t really happy. Uganda, formally known as the Republic of Uganda, is a poverty stricken country plagued with economic instabilities. Since the 1980’s, the economy has remained on a fairly steady climb, but many have doubts about the continuation of growth. Uganda will never achieve a stable economy if they do not establish changes to their infrastructure. To implement these modifications and maintain economic progression, Uganda will need 1) better government determination to end corruption, 2) commitment to improve the weak educational reforms, and 3) a decrease in their export vulnerabilities. Fortunately, the country is experiencing a much needed evolution in telecommunication which could be the single most contributing factor for an improved economy.
The war in Sierra Leone was hideous. Everyone in the country was affected in one way or another. Whether they personally were injured, had a loved one killed or got recruited to fight, no one was left unscathed. Many of the effects will affect the families financially. Sierra Leone needs funding to help families stay out of poverty and to rebuild their country after the war.

Civil wars have been a part of world history since before 130 BC when the Crisis of the Roman Republic took place. The Crisis of the Roman public was a extended period of social unrest in Rome that lasted from 133 BC to 30 BC. Civil wars happened back in 133 BC and still happen today. Many studies have been conducted on how wars and conflict affect the social outcomes and ideals, but few have been conducted on how they can and do effect the environment and the animals that live in it. This research paper will take a close look at the Sierra Leone civil war, the “blood diamonds” that funded the rebels, and how they effected the environment and its inhabitants.
Over a period from 1960-1965, the first Republic of the Congo experienced a period of serious crisis. There was a terrible war for power that displayed senseless violence and the desperation to rule. There were many internal conflicts among the people. The country eventually gained independence from Belgium. For many countries this would be a time for celebration. Unfortunately for the people of the Congo this became a time to forget. Almost immediately after independence and the general elections, the country went into civil war. Major developed cities like Katanga and Kasai wanted to be independent from the Lumumba government. Different factions started to fight the government and Katanga and Kasai tried to secede from the rest of the country out of fear of the mutinous army that was out of control looting and killing.
