Working At Small Folks Daycare

Over the course of the past two months, my favorite part of the week always consists of going to Small Folks Daycare. Almost every Wednesday morning, I would wake up at 730am and go play with the young children. They filled my soul with joy and happiness. Volunteering at Small Folks was a great experience and next year once I have my car, I would love to volunteer there again because it brought me much delight. I learned many important lessons from working at the daycare. In my opinion though, the most important lesson I learned was how to communicate with children. One of them is the compassion the teachers had for their students. Children cry when their parents drop them off, and the teachers would comfort the children and reassure them that everything would be okay. Another thing, was how passionate the teachers were. They would get very involved with the kids by playing games with them and even sing. Lastly, the teachers were very determined. When children struggled or did not understand what was going on, the teachers would take that extra step to help the children succeeded. While working at Small Folks, I grew and succeed in many new ways. One of my biggest accomplishments was that I learned to handle four kids at a time. Handling one child can be hard enough, but I learned to give attention to all the kids. I made sure each were behaving properly and were treating others with respect. I also learned how to be tougher with children. Usually, I am too nice and let children get away with things. However, the staff explained to me the importance of disciplining a child when they do something wrong. This will teach them to not do the behavior again in the future. I was and still am very proud of my success at Small
