A great work ethic is very important in my education. There are eight standards we should strive for in our work ethic. I think that having these standards will really help myself and other students, not only in the classroom, but in our careers as well. If I work at these standards I know I will do good in school and excel in my job field.
One standard I have for myself is coming to school and going to class on time. Missing class can negatively affect my grades if I miss a lesson or assignment I’ll be behind in the class. Being on time can help you when you enter your career, missing too much work could cause for dismissal. Another standard I have is making sure I’m always prepared. It’s very annoying when people ask for pencils
or paper when they are the most commonly used things at school you would think people would be stocked up on them. In most career fields you need to be able to communicate well with others. I’m great at communicating with others and being respectful of everyone. I volunteer a lot in my area and I enjoy it, I like being occupied and helping others. There are some things I’m working on, though. Group work is not my favorite type of work I’m surprisingly shy and prefer to work with my friends, or by myself rather than with strangers, but in some of my classes this year I’m partnered up with people I don’t know and I’ve been doing well with communicating and stepping out of my comfort zone. I procrastinate quite a bit, but this school year I’m focusing on being persistent to better my academic performance so that it reflects my best efforts. In the previous years my academic performance hasn’t been great. I got kind of lazy last year, I just didn’t have the drive to do my work, but most of the time instead of telling the teachers I was too lazy to do my work I blamed it on my poor memory, which is a problem for me, but sometimes I remembered to do the work I just didn’t feel like it. Now I’m more honest, although I do my work now, If I didn’t I would be honest on why I didn’t. Also outside of the classroom, at home, I’m taking responsibility for my actions. Having a great attendance record, taking accountability for my actions, being persistent, being prepared, communicating well with others, and being a good team member will not only better my academic performance but help me possess a great work ethic.
Samuelson uses his essay to explore a thesis that Americans are moving from a ‘work’ ethic to a ‘fun’ ethic. However, he doesn't spend much time explaining or introducing this, preferring to spend his time presenting facts, articles, quotes, polls and stories to prove his point. Unfortunately, as a reader, this choice of evidence, rather than solidifying his point, actually begs the question: what is his point? Samuelson spends very little time in the essay actually concluding or explaining his information. Instead, he buries the reader with facts and statistics, moving on from one factor to another before the reader even has the chance to grasp the importance of the previous one.
In the essay, “The Work Ethic, In A Modern Guise”, author Joanne B. Ciulla talks about how the modern style of working is different from the traditional and old work ethic, and how the young and coming generation does not want to work hard but instead wants instant results. The long lasting formula of working hard and performing seems to be fading away. Instead of mastering the subject, students care about the final results and brownie points. Moreover, Ciulla asserts that students engage in activities that pay-off well in the end rather than the excellence of the work. In the article, Ciulla describes the situation of today’s students being more centred about the idea of getting a higher grade. According to Ciulla, students do not show determination but they want second-chances so that they can have a better grade than before. Students want that better grade simply because they have put a lot of time. In the article, “The Way We Worked”, Tom Brokaw describes his fathers and other individuals’ work ethic during the Greatest Generation. The Greatest Generation took place during World War II and the Great Depression. Brokaw points out that the Greatest Generation was a generation known for their capacity of work, “As I researched the lives of the men and woman who came of age in the Great Depression, went through World War II, and built the country we know today, I was struck by how many of them went to work in their early teenage years. They had to work because their families needed the extra income for food, for clothing, to meet that month's rent” (Brokaw 274). In “The Way We Worked”, Brokaw's theme demonstrates examples of the different work ethic of the Greatest Generation and modern generation.
The American work ethic is something our country should be proud of. Since the days of George Washington Americans have worked hard for what they believe in, what they need, and what they want. It is our right as Americans to be able to work for these ideals. Without out a strong work ethic our country would crumble. From businessmen to politicians a strong work ethic is necessary to keep our country financially and politically stable.

America was built around the idea that if you work hard and endure your hardships you will reap the benefits life has to offer you. As religious leader and author Gordon B. Hinckley said, “Without hard work nothing grows but weeds.” Many families in America continue to instill a hard work ethic within their children, and the prosperity of our country relies its citizens work. Although, living in a country where more vacation time is being offered sounds luxurious in the long run it only negatively affects problems concerning, obesity, less household funds, and increased feelings of stress.
In America, good work ethic has become a trait that is becoming more and more difficult to find. High schools teachers expect their students to practice it, but where would they learn it from? My educational ethics toward each student will be to emphasis that everyone is an individual, they are all special and unique in their own way, and that every student does not learn on the same level. I hope my students will treat each other the way they want to be treated, and respect those that may be less fortunate. It will be wonderful to put back into the community a well-rounded individual that may make a difference in the life of someone else.

Ethics in the Workplace "Ethics are personal and, at the same time, a very public display of your attitudes and beliefs. It is because of ethical beliefs that we humans may act differently in different situations" (University of Phoenix, 2007). Poor ethical choices in the workplace can truly hurt people. Poor ethics can damage their career, happiness, and quality of life. Not only can these actions hurt the individual who has made the bad choices, but also most often it hurts the innocent.
When it comes to my studies and work, I am a very focused and determined individual. Because of this, I want to live with others who share my focus and determination. A themed or learning community offers the perfect opportunity for this. As such, the idea of living in such a place interests me greatly. Being surrounded by others who have the same or a greater work ethic and dedication to a particular field as I do would enhance my education immensely.
Students should be encouraged to interact with one another and to develop social virtues such as cooperation and tolerance for different points of view. Also, teachers should feel no compulsion to focus their students' attentions on one discrete discipline at a time, and students may be responsible for learning lessons that combine several different subjects.
The many principles that my parents have taught me is to be outgoing, but most importantly an educated person, for allowing me to become what I am today, a respectful mature young lady.
When I think of ethics, I think of the angel on my left shoulder telling me to do the “right” thing, and the devil on my right, tempting me to join the dark side. This scenario deals with what is “right” or what is “wrong” and where my morals will lie in the end. But who is to say what is right and wrong? Ethics is such a trivial word because every person, company, and culture has a different idea of what is considered ethical or what is considered unethical. Throughout this paper, I will address my personal view on ethics, and how I believe it effects the workplace and today’s society.
