Woodrow Wilson, the 28th President of the United States (1913-1921) and the author of The Study of Administration which was published in 1887 was the scholar who constructed the Dichotomy of Public Administration. There are several aspects when about Wilson’s separation theory. First thought is the period of time when Wilson created his theory of separation between politics and administration, where the country was at. What was the producing factor of Wilson’s divisions of these powers? Next is how Wilson implemented his theory in his present day world. Lastly is Wilson dichotomy still established in our government today? What was the driving force behind his idea that would be debated for over a hundred years? From the 1890’s to the 1920’s was home to the Progressive era. During this time the United States was going through extreme reform that ranged from politics, racism and industrialization. Our world as we knew it was gaining speed and power at an exceptional rate. The spurt of industrial growth brought on many changes, society as a whole was becoming smarter and more efficient. We conquered issues such as social reforms, working conditions, child labor, and female suffrage. Along the political side the Progressive Era brought light to the bribery and corruption that was taking place in our government. Theodore Roosevelt (1901-1909) was in office when this movement kicked off but it was handed off to William Howard Taft (1909-1913) and followed up by Woodrow Wilson (1913-1921).
