Objective: To convince President Andrew Jackson to use the budget surplus for the women’s rights movement. Summary: I was born on May 27, 1818 in Homer, New York. I attended a local school and after that I taught school and was a private tutor. In 1840 I married Dexter C. Bloomer, a newspaper editor who got me interested in public affairs. I started to contribute articles to newspapers on various topics and joined the local women’s Temperance Society. Then, I began writing The Lily, a newspaper for women. I became more active in women’s rights and made many speaking appearances. I also began a dress-reform movement for women, pantaloons under a short skirt.
